It certainly makes them idiots, from the perspective of artificially restricting their audience; AFAIK it's very simple to publish on OpenVSX, there are no extension changes needed. Most devs I know use VSCodium, not VSCode.

If I were their investor I would not be happy.

I think counter to your experience I don’t know a single developer who uses Codium. While I get the frustration, it may come soon but not immediately.

I watch YouTube on my TV. Using Firefox, with uBlock Origin. We have a laptop plugged into the TV, with a bluetooth keyboard. It is a vastly superior experience to any smart TV I have ever seen.

And also more than most people want to have setup in the living room. My wife would rather have ads on YouTube occasionally than an ugly computer plugged in all the time. It’s also more difficult to deal with than a remote you can work one handed.
dividedcomet commented on A band has a guest and plays a song the guest wrote. Is it original or cover?   github.com/cryptograss/ar... · Posted by u/jMyles

We're working on a parser for our band's setlists, and we want it to be compatible (and eventually, to be able to cross-reference included songs with) setlists from Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers, Widespread Panic, Travelin' McCourys, Leftover Salmon, Billy Strings, etc.

We have run into this question already a few times: when we have a guest, and we play an original written by that guest, how is it best reflected in the setlist?

dividedcomet · 5 months ago
I haven’t programmed this issue specifically, but Billy Strings has sat in with Trey Anastasio a few times. For me if they do a cover of the guests song, I would say it’s a cover until that member is added to the lineup. I would check how the PhishNet API handles it (I think they have a is_original Boolean). Phish does “covers” of the 2001 theme, I’d wonder if that’s considered a cover even though it was just a small tone poem from 100+ years ago??

This doesn’t square with most of my experience with React, especially if use it to generate static code hosted by nginx. I’ve found my personal site to always be wicked fast, even though it’s not that complex.

There is truth in the statement that the CcP is more open than the US, counterfactual truth if you like but the CCP is in itself such a vast and diverse culture, that it has no choice but to be accomodating to many social, intelectual, language, and religious groups, and has technological and economic disparities that run the gamut from stone age tribes to the cities of the future. The CCP has one primary rule : dont mess with brand China. Everything is possible, except the things that involve foriegn or alien though and control. So there is no technological constraints in China, pattents and copyright are not weaponised, its still a meritocracy for business and intelectual achivement. The only reason they buy things from the west, is that we do those things better than them, closing those doors will only focus there , formitable, attention on achiving there well stated goals by whatever, pragmatic ,means are best. And we are closed to the idea of actual merit and competition, and instead limit creativity, and treat markets, as property. And are so so fucked.

Accommodate religious groups??? They literally have forced re-education camps for minorities. This is off the wall crazy
dividedcomet commented on How do non-software engineers feel upon reflection, about their degrees?    · Posted by u/AdobiWanKenobi
dividedcomet · 8 months ago
Yeah, we all go through it. I got a degree in economics and we used a program called SPSS developed by IBM to do regression analysis. No one in the industry uses it and it was very frustrating looking for a first job and no one was wanting the software I learned in university. But university isn’t about leaning to uses tool and apply it somewhere else, it’s about the underlying concepts and the people you get exposed to. I don’t use regression analysis in my job any more, but I’m much more prepared in doing numerical analysis than my co-workers who have traditional CS or marketing degrees.

The problem it solved would take a septillion years to do on a conventional computer but no one other than a quantum researcher cares about that problem.

How about solving a problem someone that’s not a quantum researcher would care about. Give me traveling salesmen with n=10. Or factor a 10 digit number. Something.

Until then quantum computers are in the same category as commercial fusion. Long on “breakthroughs”, zero on results.

Look at cancer researchers for a nice contrast. The annual number of “breakthrough that could cure cancer!1!” announcements have dropped to near zero while steady, real progress is being made all the time.

I feel like the problems airlines face when not running a hub-and-spoke model would be a good market for quantum computing? Could be totally wrong though. Lots and lots of variables and permutations and options to sift through.

I set up a form to send basic email info for wedding RSVPs for my wedding, no validation, and never got a single piece of spam. Granted it’s hosted in Cloudflare so don’t know if they blocked out all the hard work for me.
