> In general Next.js has so many layers of abstraction that 99.9999% of projects don't need.

This true to most software projects that are used more than one set of people. Joe Armstrong proposed a solution that we should opensource functions only and people could assemble everything else using these opensource functions. I start to think that he might be right and instead using "frameworks" we should use these set of functions instead.

I did find it quite funny that he makes this claim, but then writes an entire blog piece about how nextjs is no good because of one particular thing it doesn't do to his liking!

Getting your first few views on youtube can be pretty tough at the best of times. That's why I created this site for highlighting new music (mainly acoustic covers and originals) posted each day. Users can rate songs they like, and there is a weekly chart section to highlight the favourites. There are still a lot of features to add, but it does the basics for now. thanks for reading. the site is: https://nwtb.eu/?views=10&sort=date

Would be amazing if you could connect this to pcloud. Their default player is no fun to use

My opinion continues to be that AI companies should have to prove that they have consent to use any and all data their models are trained on.

That is, be able to prove a) that their models were actually trained on the data they claim, b) that they have consent to use said data for AI training, and c) that this consent was given by the actual author or with the author's consent.

I want platforms like soundcloud, youtube, etc. to be required to actually send out an e-mail to all of its users "hey we will be using your content for AI training, please click here to give permission".

I'm pretty sure soundcloud has already done this. I don't believe they gave an option to opt-out though.

I can't think of a group of people less qualified and less informed to comment on the issues at hand except politicians. But like usual the weavers will get upset about mechanical looms. And these weavers have big enough money to rock the boat.

Yes, they should have ran with "More than 400 of the UK's leading media and arts professionals" as the headline. But realistically, they are probably trying to appeal to a certain reader who won't be found in the comments section of a HN article.

Going to plug Language Transfer again, an excellent free app that is a much better way to learn a language than the DuoLingo approach.

I find LT great for "learning the language", but I find something like Spanish After Hours on Youtube to be far better for "learning to speak and understand the spoken language". I would recommend that everyone at least dips into something like LT every now and then, but I think something like SAH is better for daily exercises.

Seems like a good idea. FYI: The signup for doesn't seem to render correctly in lightmode...
