Unless you are actively hitting WAL contention limits (which is surprisingly hard to do on modern NVMe), the operational simplicity of a single binary beats the "scalability" of a distributed mess any day.
We’ve normalized a complexity tax where every side project "needs" a dedicated DB cluster and a Redis cache. Pocketbase proves that for 99% of CRUD apps, the bottleneck isn't the database—it's the network latency and the developer's time spent managing k8s manifests.
a) you should not be the owner (to avoid pet projects that are not actually useful) of the project or at least not the sole owner
b) ideally it should be some high impact projects that have little to no corpo sponsors as opposed to something like React
c) if your contribution is not merged in, it should not count as "work done"
Pros:
* Stability
* Very decent standard library
* Good balance between productivity and robustness
* Great package management
* Extremely easy to upgrade, so essentially free goodies (performance) every year or so
Cons:
* Very MSFT dominated (obviously)
* Subpar tooling outside of Windows (I'm looking at you C# Dev Kit)
* C# has way to many features, it feels bloated
* Culturally, it feels like .NET devs are less "passionate" about their work
* The freaking stigma of being a .NET dev: you will never be as cool as the guys who work with Node/Python/whatever
Edit: Also I'd like to add EFCore as one of the pros of the ecosystem. Hands down the best ORM. Others don't come close.
How about F#? Isn't F# mostly C# with better ergonomics?
