I remember tripping over this. It was frustrating.

I enjoyed it, but in Safari on iOS there was no sound at any point. I checked my device volume. I toggled the game option for sound on and off.

It just occurred to me that it may be because I have my phone ringer set to silent. That is indeed what caused it, which is not great as I don't want notifications to be making noise.

It also felt slightly too zoomed in (I even attempted to zoom out using my fingers).

Alec's (Technology Connections) videos on that pinball machine are fantastically detailed, and his ability to map it all out and present it visually is amazing.

I've been a supporter of TC for many years, he has a fantastic backlog of videos on many topics. The series that hooked me (especially since I do a lot of work around broadcast software) was the one about the technology of television.

Give yourself a gift in the new year of watching through his backlog, you will not be disappointed!

I discovered him only a couple of months ago, and have thoroughly enjoyed what he's got.

Engine computers can easily be reprogrammed to make the engine run at all sorts of different operating bands. You could easily detect state emissions equipment, since it must pull information from the ECU. To me- these devices are either pre-programmed operating modes that produce clean emissions but the vehicle would not operate under this tune (emissions testing is often not under load) and so once back on the road, returns to the original operating mode. OR, entirely fake modules created to trick emissions systems without altering the operating mode.

PS check out Megasquirt if you want to learn about DIY Fuel Injection. I ran a home brew Megasquirt/Megaspark system off an IBM laptop in my Volvo 740 Turbo back in the 90s, one of the things that got me into hardware.

Or maybe put "Paraquat" in the title instead of talking circles around it.

The genie is already out of the bottle, you simply cannot take away a feature like this that people have already gotten used to and not expect a backlash.

There’s no good decision to make here.

dcormier · 2 years ago
If the feature is harmful to mental health, then removing it is indeed a good decision.

People complain about all kinds of change. That doesn't make the change wrong or mean that it shouldn't be done.

Euclid has a 1.2m primary mirror. For $600k you can have a 1m telescope in your backyard. You will still have to deal with the atmosphere, clouds, and Moon, however. Especially clouds.

There's another duality of thought: I want SpaceX and Tesla to succeed. Regardless of my feelings about him, I acknowledge that Elon was instrumental in sparking the shift to EVs. Also, that having a dictator with a vision can allow companies to do audacious things that would normally die in committees (like reusable rockets, etc...)

That said, I have nothing but contempt for the man and am petty enough to have schadenfreude in any of his personal comeuppance.

I have enjoyed watching a new launch provider emerge, EVs become a real thing, and him being forced to buy Twitter.

> This it not accurate. MOL was canceled in favor of adding black/dark projects to the NASA space shuttle “white” project.

I thought the plan was that the US DoD would operate their own shuttles with military crews, rather than using NASA vehicles and crews. Wasn't that why Vandenberg was fitted-out to launch shuttles?

> Wasn't that why Vandenberg was fitted-out to launch shuttles?

I don't know about DoD operating their own shuttles with their own crews, but my understanding was that part of the pitch that got Shuttle approved was that they could do polar launches from Vandenberg to deploy Earth observation (read: spy) satellites. Or match the orbit of, observe, and even capture satellites belonging to other countries in polar orbits. It helped get DoD's backing for the program.

Being able to launch from Vandenberg as well as Cape Canaveral opens up more orbital options.
