> To fill its ranks, the agency recruited top swimmers from throughout the armed forces. Korean prisoners of war, released after showing a commitment to fighting the Japanese, also participated in OSS training on Catalina.

Interesting that they would mix Korean nationals and Japanese Americans together. I wonder what the group dynamic was like. It also reminds me of Silmido and Unit 684, except the S. Korean government cancelled the mission since North and South relations were improving, so the soldiers killed their trainers and committed mutiny.

A Korean-American served as an US Army officer in the Japanese-American units in WW2.

I agree, even as OP. Malcom Gladwell's writings on elite universities have gone viral, and even though some good points are sometimes made, many are just stretching the truth for clicks.

As for the general grade inflation problem: It is confusing that Harvard's grade distribution is so different than schools with similarly strong student bodies like Princeton, Columbia, UChicago, Berkeley, etc. Especially very, very large portion of students are legacy / recruited athletes / very wealthy donor parents. According to the affirmative action lawsuit, over 10% of the student body alone was on the "Dean's interest list," a very elite group of autoadmits, for example.

Abut 10 years ago, City of Los Angeles tried to ban engine-powered leaf blowers (driven by people tired of the noise pollution) but was reversed when local gardeners made a big stink about it.

The article seems to hinge around China and etc more than most things. I do wonder how capable any company is to move manufacturing out of China at any kind of large scale.

Samsung moved most or all of their factories from China recently.

Don't start your IT/tech career with AWS certification first.

- Instead, learn some scripting (bash, python). You will need to constantly work on improving this.

- Learn how to set up a Linux server and get a website going, from scratch. Even if you won't do it much in real life, it's helpful to know how it's done.

- Get at least AWS Associate cert.

- Find an employer/manager who will let you work with AWS in lab/production in real life.

One of the ways China managed to hack into America's F35 (or F22) fighter development program was listening into a conference call of various vendors discussing project status.

I believe this is a huge problem in our society. And I recommmend everyone who downplays it to watch "The social dilemma".

There are a few aspects which are worrying:

- Social pressure to be connected constantly increases for children below 14 years.

- Sites like TikTok, Reddit, Twitter, etc. are designed to be addictive. Children at such a young age do not have the same level of self control like you.

- The longer kids spend time on these platforms, the smaller their bubble gets where they live in.

I understand that as a good parent you can try to explain such things and guide them. But many won't.

Recently I was invited to a school meeting about screen time. I was shocked at some recommendations, for example, age = hours of screen time per week. Also many parents trust tablets and phones way more than desktops. This also worries me, because arguably there are more ways to be creative on desktops.

I also spent endless hours playing video games when I was young and chatting about them on forums and irc. But social media is on a whole other level and I think most people do not even realize it.

One big recommendation for all to watch "The social dilemma" on netflix also.

The social media apps on the phones are specifically agonized over, tested, and refined continuously to increase interaction, aka make users into addicts.
