Lmao

Please explain how bitcoin can be inflated

And recognizing a movement has ideological reasons while making no claim as to the strength or rationality of those reasons has nothing to do with faith

Make up a stable coin and pretend it has real money behind it while refusing to submit to an independent audit.

Any other requests, buddy?

daveguy commented on Americans overestimate how many social media users post harmful content   academic.oup.com/pnasnexu... · Posted by u/bikenaga

Abstract: "Americans can become more cynical about the state of society when they see harmful behavior online. Three studies of the American public (n = 1,090) revealed that they consistently and substantially overestimated how many social media users contribute to harmful behavior online. On average, they believed that 43% of all Reddit users have posted severely toxic comments and that 47% of all Facebook users have shared false news online. In reality, platform-level data shows that most of these forms of harmful content are produced by small but highly active groups of users (3–7%). This misperception was robust to different thresholds of harmful content classification. An experiment revealed that overestimating the proportion of social media users who post harmful content makes people feel more negative emotion, perceive the United States to be in greater moral decline, and cultivate distorted perceptions of what others want to see on social media. However, these effects can be mitigated through a targeted educational intervention that corrects this misperception. Together, our findings highlight a mechanism that helps explain how people's perceptions and interactions with social media may undermine social cohesion."

Ahhhh. So maybe it's the platforms and their algorithms promoting harmful content for attention that are to blame? And how many of the platforms want to even admit the content they are pushing is "harmful"? Seems like two elephant sized sources of error.

What have I said that indicates worship? I am simply pointing out that what you claimed was objectively false, and in response you moved the goalposts.

Your statements of faith included:

> Currency that can't be inflated... [seriously? the fact that you didn't even recognize that as a statement of faith, well...]

> Outside of pure utility, they have tons of ideological reason to exist

I mean, maybe you're in a repressive regime and really need a way to fight the system. But I'm guessing you just have faith in crypto ideology. Either way, have a great day!

> These things don't have any utility otherwise and no reason to exist outside of those.

Lol. Permissionless payments certainly have utility. Making it harder for governments to freeeze/seize your assets has utility. Buying stuff the government disallows, often illegitimately, has value. Currency that can't be inflated has value.

Any outside of pure utility, they have tons of ideological reason to exist outside scams and fraud. Your inability to imagine or dismissal of those is telling as to your close-mindedness.

daveguy · 12 hours ago
But without regulation they clearly devolve into scam and fraud vehicles. Crypto just isn't worth the time or effort for regular folks. I'm not sure what's going to happen first -- abandonment or bank run, but crypto like all unregulated banking systems, are destined to fail. I guess it could end up being regulated but at this point, with such pervasive scam/fraud use, that will probably just accelerate the bank run.

Shouldn't you have already moved on to AI hype? The fact that you're still worshipping crypto is telling as to your close-mindedness.

You'd very likely be wrong. People said the same thing in Trump's first cycle.

We tend to overestimate the short term effects due to polarization and the constant media cycle.

Dumpty's first cycle still had a few sane people pulling his puppet strings.

Is there a connection between Tim Ferriss and Roomba, or is this just a joke about Brooks having a 4-hour workweek?
daveguy · 2 days ago
They were saying that whoever was running things at Roomba must have been duped by the 4 hour work week bs because nothing was getting done. Specifically whoever took over operations, planning, and product improvements from Brooks.

I wish it were easier to just say to someone. Hey I don’t want to hurt your feelings, but I’m feeling to end this conversation now. Is it OK that we bring it to an end?
daveguy · 4 days ago
Just say "Hey, I gotta run. It was nice talking to you." Or something to that effect. Most people aren't going to get upset if you need to wrap up a conversation. And if they do get upset (assuming they aren't having an emergency), it's a red flag.

Alternatives: "can we talk later, I'm really busy with ___."

Or in a work setting, "I'm in the middle of something, do you mind sending an email?"

Social settings, excuse yourself to the bathroom, they'll move on.

If you don't like the conversation, "do you mind if we talk about something else?".

There are tons of ways to wrap up or avoid conversation. The more honest you are the better. And take note of how others gracefully end conversations with you and use those phrases too.

Therapists are dumb meatbags like us. Also often trained incorrectly, biased etc.

So you're saying even dumber wordsacks, completely untrained in mental health, and biased are somehow better?
