I have had multiple PRK treatments. I completely understand why it is not mainstream.

It is an unpleasant procedure and the recovery is quite painful. There is a reason why it is almost never done today.

Wait, you can get PRK more than once?

I had it done about fifteen years ago. My vision was perfect for a decade, but now I'm back in glasses.

PRK recovery was certainly uncomfortable, but I'd gladly do it again for another decade without glasses.

The last comment:

>The Politiken article has been corrected. They're dropping Microsoft Office but not Windows. They might in the future, that seems to be the general trend, but in this case the minister said they're dropping Microsoft services and interviewer misinterpreted that as including Windows.

It looks like they're just dropping Office 365 for Libre office. Not switching the entire operating system.

It's layers of abstraction all the way down the light cone.

The causality is always present, we just don't have the processing power to ensure with 100% certainty that all relevant factors are accounted for and all spurious factors dismissed.

daoboy commented on Fixing Europe's broken patent system   josef.cn/blog/europe-pate... · Posted by u/josefchen

I didn't realize how different the European patent system was from the US:

"In Europe? If an innovator even talks about their invention publicly before filing, they risk losing all patent rights forever. And if they want to file a patent? It’s €2,000–€6,000 upfront, no flexibility, no grace period, no second chances. [...] The single most important factor is where the invention is physically created. There are no workarounds besides physically moving to a different jurisdiction to innovate. This hard geographic rule forces innovators to make difficult choices, often leading them to leave Europe."

So is there a straightforward solution to keeping this out of our system and we just...don't?

"Where is this diethanolamine coming from? Well, it's not known to be a natural part of either human or bacterial biochemistry. Instead, it is an industrial contaminant, sadly, whose ability to be incorporated (at low levels) into animal and human lipids through the apparently-not-so-picky enzyme cardiolipin synthase has been confirmed for decades now."
