Well then you should have no problem proving what you are now only insisting on. This is HN, not Reddit. Where's the citation? Prove what you said or I have no reason to take you seriously.

Go to YouTube and search for "chicago weekend violence".

This is a total aside but you've reminded me: I couple of years ago I switched from cable TV to just using broadcast and bought a new HD Homerun tuner capable of receiving 4K OTA broadcasts.

Imagine my shock that these new broadcasts are DRMed. HDHomerun can't decode them. I don't blame them, I'm absolutely incensed that OTA broadcasts have been allowed to start using DRM.

Lon Seidman (lon.tv on YouTube) has been covering this closely, and the FCC is aware: https://youtu.be/0YmeEp_N6pY

I wonder what this entails. Is an operating system critical? I would think so.

The OpenBSD project is based in Calgary, btw.
cylinder714 commented on Dollar General's 19,000 Stores Could Solve Rural America's Internet Problem    · Posted by u/maysjack

Rural America's internet problem is not edge compute. It's the FCC constantly redefining "broadband" to include barely-connected households.

This solves nothing, even if you bridge the digital divide. It's also subject to local regulation, likely unprofitable and requires extraordinary headcount-to-compute ratios that will never displace Oracle or AWS. Their "pre-built logistics and power grid" would get saturated by 2 colo machines.

As someone living in rural Nevada and served by Dollar General and Family Dollar stores, I agree. I don't see what problems out here would be solved by local cloud computing resources. The snippet provided doesn't go into detail.

Barry Kauler is brilliant, but as he's the main driver behind the project, I worry that the bus factor for EasyOS is 1.

Below $200 laptops are way worse than what people imagine.

Too many people look at ads, see something that looks like a laptop, and assume it's just a "no thrill" machine that mostly works. I've heard so many "how bad can it be?" hot takes as they've never used anything at that price.

※refurbished is another story, here we're talking about a new and under guarantee device so that wouldn't compare.

Lon Seidman just reviewed a $180 HP laptop from Walmart. Intel N150 processor, can run Linux and has upgradable RAM and storage:
