You have to differentiate common purchases from "large" purchases in this discussion. I'm certain you don't think there's something shady going on, or tax evasion happening, if someone uses cash in the grocery store or at Pressbyrån, or to pay for some little gadget or whatever at Kjell&Co.

This is what people think of when someone "uses cash". Not hauling tens of thousands to buy a used car or to settle the bill for having your bathroom tiled, which would be cases I too would raise an eyebrow over.

I am danish so not quite as anti-cash as Sweden but if people use cash in grocery stores or just stores in general the general sentiment will be that its either because they are old , the cash they have is undeclared income or that it is income from illegal activities.
cuban-frisbee commented on Apple terminates Epic Games developer account, calling it a 'threat' to iOS   techcrunch.com/2024/03/06... · Posted by u/madtrax

Though I’m in favor of forcing Apple to do certain things (right to repair, sideloading apps, and more), this is one case where I can’t take a side. Epic (and actually Tim Sweeney), for all its bravado and underdog pretense, is a bad actor, a loose cannon and a dishonest player. Epic Games and Tim Sweeney thrive on drama and theatrics, and somehow seem to be driven solely against Apple while not batting an eyelid when it comes to other platforms where it pays 30% (or more?), such as Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo. [1] I have no sympathy for Epic Games as long as Tim Sweeney and his drama goes on. This doesn’t mean that I believe Apple to be innocent. Tim Sweeney has a grudge against Apple. I don’t see anything more in the history of this saga.

Sweeney is the only one that seems to have the guts, the smarts and is willing to put his money where his mouth is against Apple and other bad actors. Whataboutism about console gaming is frankly laughable as is the notion that they have to fix all problems by the themselves at once or none of them count.

If you can't vote, you shouldn't be obligated to participate in society through taxes, laws, and other requirements. I doubt you could sell anyone on that though.

You are obligated to participate before you can vote, you can be obligated after too.

By that logic a stranger could get into my car if it is parked in the street, since it is a private vehicle parked on the governments property. This seems counterintuitive.
cuban-frisbee · 4 years ago
But the vehicle is not parked in a public space it's parked on private property that is owned by the government. If someone is in a vehicle on someones property then it's the property owner not the vehicle owner were trespassing laws apply to.

The Airline is as much a guest in an airport as the passenger is.

Trespass law is not within DOTs regulatory purview. It is possible for a request from an airline to be legal under one set of laws but illegal under another. Airports are both under federal and state law. Which may conflict at times.
cuban-frisbee · 4 years ago
How could trespassing laws possibly apply? It’s not the airlines property just their vehicle parked on the government’s property

Why is that sort of game only possible with cloud rendering vs some dedicated server architecture?

I think you'd need to go much higher in terms of how many unpredictable, latency dependent objects are needed on screen before you'd start hitting issues with client side rendering.

cuban-frisbee · 5 years ago
Synchronising the game state in games now is exceptionally hard even with 64 players for any sort of latency dependent game. It's a constant grievance in most gaming communities today. If you just have to point a gpu view into the world, then it just depends on how many gpu's you can attach to the server.

There's no way the final rendering is realtime though, right? Post production work is reduced, but not totally eliminated. But the advancements they made with that dome are amazing
cuban-frisbee · 5 years ago
From what I understand from the documentary they put out then the the background they render in real time is indeed the final picture.Of course mistakes might still need to be fixed later but the rendering is intended to be final.

How long does it take to render a frame from a Disney's newest CGI movie release? 12 hours? So yeah, once the hardware improvements bring down that 12 hours to 16 milliseconds, then we won't need the hacks...
cuban-frisbee · 5 years ago
If you take The Mandalorian, which is arguably Disney's hottest ongoing project, then it happens almost entirely in realtime inside the Unreal engine by using their led dot dome screen.

It's not like the products will disappear. Rather they will likely be split into different companies that wields far less power. I highly doubt the average european consumer will care if whatsapp is its own company again or instagram for that matter. Likewise with the various google product groups.
