cridenour commented on Jeep pushed software update that bricked all 2024 Wrangler 4xe models   twitter.com/StephenGutows... · Posted by u/PKop

This is chilling (from https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/2024-4xe-loss...):

> On my drive home I abruptly had absolutely no acceleration, the gear indicator on the dash started flashing, the power mode indicator disappeared, an alert said shift into park and press the brake + start button, and the check engine light and red wrench lights came on. I was still able to steer and brake with power steering and brakes for maybe 30 seconds before those went out too. After putting it into park and pressing the brake and start button it started back up and I could drive it normally for a little bit, but it happened two more times on my 1.5 mi drive home.

If that happened on the highway I could easily see people being killed.

It did happen on the highway to my sister. She was in the middle lane but luckily had the space to get to the side. Managed to start it again and get off the highway where it did it again and wouldn’t start after that.

Very scary.

Stargate. The original movie was cool but I never could get in to the TV show, even during its heyday with Richard Dean Anderson. That said, if they ever did a reboot I'd probably check it out!

Funny enough, I felt the complete opposite. Loved the shows, especially Atlantis, but found the movie pretty meh.

If anyone wishes to see some high level Caesar III play on Julius (notably not Augustus) I can recommend watching DDRJake, he plays custom maps that are still being made to this day!

I find it incredible how he's able to take some incredibly difficult maps and beat them without any prior knowledge; the skill in planning a city before planting even the first building takes an imagination far beyond mine, and adapting live to sieges and other dangers is even more impressive.

Been having a great time watching this. Thanks for sharing.
cridenour commented on MyQ's horrible take on open access to their devices   memos.daviesgeek.com/m/7... · Posted by u/daviesgeek

The only reason that I wanted Home Assistant to integrate with MyQ is to close my garage doors after 15 minutes if they were left open. The fact that their app doesn't support this out of the box tells you everything you need to know about the quality of their software.

Sadly I need MyQ to integrate with my Model 3 though. So I'll probably keep it and get ratgdo too (or something similar since my openers are older than Security 2.0) simply so I can close the door if it's left open.

I’m pretty sure this is possible in their app now but the UX to achieve it is atrocious. I had to follow multiple blog posts to figure it out.

Any way for me to listen to all the different jingles? I've been able to hear all the jingles through 4 of a kind, but I have no hope of hearing the straight flush/royal flush jingles without cheating somehow.

You could grab the pck file the browser downloads and expand it using Godot itself or a Godot CLI tool.

I make WebGL multiplayer games using Unity.

The original changes essentially shut me down.

Yesterday, I just found out Unity has changed their definition to exempt WebGL games: a partial relief. I have little confidence Unity will stick to their plans.

In between I evaluated all the alternatives to Unity specifically about WebGL players.

unfortunately WebGL is either impossible or crippled in other engines, frameworks. Further, other engines are like MS Paint versus Unity who would be Adobe Creative Cloud.

Here is my WebGL summary:

Godot uses Node trees instead of Entity Component. Porting Unity scripts almost impossible because of this amongst other reasons. Attempts to weld Entity Component only supported on Godot 4 but….

Godot 4+ WebGL does not work on Mac with no plans to change. Godot is waiting for Chrome to fix something, no comment on Safari, FF, others. One forum poster doing Godot WebGL export noticed that the Empty Scene WebGL export of Godot is 17MB versus 4MB for Unity.

Unreal 5 does not export to WebGL. However you can use UE 4

UE4 WebGL is not much discussed and the pieces you can find imply the output size, and thus customer download time, is significantly larger than Unity’s

Stride does not export to WebGL.

So UE4 seemed the only other option

I wonder if Godex[0] could be a fit for you. ECS based Godot, based on 3.x which has much more broad WebGL support.

I feel like, realistically, for a lot of the people that feel might be affected by this change they could probably do their games in an engine like Godot without much trouble.

Though as it says in the article, Godot does lack proper support for consoles.

cridenour · 2 years ago
Not for long on the console front - though costs have yet to be determined.

What do you think is the biggest missing features from Godot that is in Unity?
cridenour · 2 years ago
An active paid asset marketplace, specifically for systems and templates. There is movement on this front, but it's slow.

Right now if you don't want to build it, you have to hope someone is offering it for free - where in Unity there are many options for almost anything you can think of varying quality/price.

It's just such a game changer for prototyping or just being new to game dev.

Congrats on reaching Early Access. What networking framework did you use? I am exploring Unity’s Netcode for GameObjects package, does Godot have a similar package that developers can use?
cridenour · 2 years ago
For networking I use a combination of Godot's RPC commands[0], their new high-level nodes[1][2] and a fork of GodotSteam[3], which passes it all through Steam's INetworkMessages framework.

I’ve been working with Godot 4 on a multiplayer open world survival crafting game for just over a year now - and launched into Early Access back in May[0].

Happy to answer any questions about Godot!
