In Poland, OLX (basically equivalent eBay) commonly has promotional campaigns, where you can buy something from a select category with 1 PLN shipping to box machine (around $0.30).

So people figured out, that you can abuse it to send anything to anyone in the country. Just create a fake listing for 1 PLN, let the receiver "buy" it (there is some extra service fee, but like $1) and there you go - probably the cheapest shipping possible, much cheaper than regular ~$5-7 box machine package.

Reminds me of Mike Horn, who travelled around the globe trying to say on the equator as much as he can. That being the longest round-trip.

He walked a bit, but mostly sailed though.

The book (Equator) worths the read. Especially the part in Africa.

The fate of OpenAI is effectively sealed - it will go bankrupt and the scraps will get absorbed by Microsoft, for further enshitification. Not necessarily the "end" of AI, but enjoy your account while it's useful.

The problem is, there is a whole ecosystem of businesses operating as OpenAI API wrappers, and those are gonna get screeeeewed.

"Brand moat" is not an actual economic concept. Moats indicate how easy/hard it is to switch to a competitor. If OpenAI does something user-adversarial, it takes two seconds to switch to Anthropic/Gemini (the exception being Enterprise contracts/lock-in, which is exactly why AI companies prioritize that). The entire reason that there are race-to-the-bottom price wars among LLM companies is that it's trivial for most people to switch to whatever's cheapest.

Brand loyalty and users not having sufficient incentive by default to switch to a competitor is something else. OpenAI has lost a lot of money to ensure no such incentive forms.

McDonald’s has brand moat. So does Coca-Cola. And many more products. The switching cost is null, but the brand does it all.
