I made SmoothTrack, a no-equipment head tracking app for iOS and Android which lets you control the game camera in sim games (like MSFS 2024 for example) with your head - basically like TrackIR, just without any equipment and for $15 instead of $150. I originally made the app just for myself to save myself the money of buying a TrackIR system, but then /r/flightsim begged me to release it as a full app.

Last month, I released SmoothTrack 2.0 which includes basic eye tracking and camera control gestures.

I wrote a little script to constantly check for open appointments on ICBC (for license and motorcycle driving test slots). Has come in handy a few times already since usually everything is booked up months in advance. With this I usually find something much sooner within a few hours of running the script. https://gitlab.com/charsi/icbc-appointment-checker

It’s hardly FUD. It’s the reason OP listed for moving back to windows. Currently on my laptop, Linux works but there is no support for the webcam, bluetooth, suspend, finger print scanning, and thunderbolt features beyond usb 3.

It’s improving and I’m sure in a few years it’ll be working well but these are issues that have been reoccurring for me. I’ve never had a Linux laptop where the fingerprint scanner worked.

I am on a thinkpad using an external thunderbolt monitor with several peripherals linked to it. No sweat at all. Never had to install drivers for anything, webcam, wifi, bluetooth etc all works. Linux mint has been rock solid. I've gone through three major OS updates without anything breaking.

While that may be true, "spaces for alignment" is nigh unsupported by all editors I've seen. They insist on replacing 8 (or N) spaces with tab even if in an alignment region.

int foobar(int a,

___________int b) // should only ever have spaces (using _ here because HTML)

But good luck finding an editor that won't insert a tab when you use the tab key here (willing to be wrong).

The other issue I have is that diffs break alignment between undented code and anything with tabs because the tabs "eat" the leading space, but unindented lines are offset by one.

With a .editorconfig[1] file with the correct configs you can get most code editors to insert spaces instead of tabs.

Not sure what it is doing more...I'm referring to this rq: https://github.com/dflemstr/rq#format-support-status

It converts to/from the listed formats.

There is also `jc` (written in Python) with the added benefit that it converts output of many common unix utilities to json. So you would not need to parse `ip` for example.

Also look at `yq` - https://github.com/mikefarah/yq

This is a wrapper to jq that also supports yaml and other file formats.

Also useful for nuking paywall overlays. Works great at The Atlantic, one click and you're in.

Just disable javascript in ublock origin for the site and you don't have to even worry about clicking anything. Lots of news sites deliver the content and then try to block access to it using javascript.

I use whatbox.ca as my global/universal VPN. So far I haven’t seen any issues. It works in places where most VPNs are banned or heavily throttled (like Saudi/Abu Dhabi/Qatar, my workplace, AT&T cellular data, etc)
charsi · 4 years ago
Isn't whatbox.ca mainly aimed at hosting seedboxes? They are accordingly higher priced than a VPN. Whats the rationale for using them as a VPN ?
