cachestash commented on Scientists make precise edits to mitochondrial DNA for first time   nature.com/articles/d4158... · Posted by u/pseudolus

There's a host of rare diseases that originate from mtDNA mutations that this could have applications in. I know the tech/Silicon Valley crowd tends to love anti-aging stuff as well, so for all y'all into life extension stuff, this should interest you as well because of mitochondria's hypothesized role in aging[0].

I have been taking a high grade CoQ10 supplement.

CoQ10 is the primary antioxidant the human cell provides to protect and support mitochondria. It helps generate ATP within the mitochondria, the main energy driver we have.

CoQ10 is ubiquitous and produce within the body, however after the age of 20 levels start to drop, so it makes sense to consider supplements to top levels up if you're north of 30.

I love the stuff myself. I went from a tired feeling 45 year old with brain fog, to having a lot more energy and a mind keen to engage all day with whatever I have going on at work

It's quite astonishing to see the US actively reject the people and the talent that other countries would be taking with open arms. Indian and Chinese immigrants in particular in tech constitute a large part of the workforce and the former increasingly in leadership too.

With the rapidly developing national sectors in India and China and the increasing racism and deteriorating condition this could very well the point at which many people consider to actually go home. What could have been decades of comfortable technological lead for the US may evaporate within a decade or two if human talent is rejected like this. Crazy to see a nation do this to itself honestly.

Trump has no use for smart or brown skinned people, neither group would ever vote for him.

Yes, a common reaction, until newbies (like myself) find configurations like Doom Emacs and Spacemacs and come to realize the opposite. For myself it's only missing a slightly better "rending experience" like VSCode.

I tried both of them and just gave up. Emacs for me has nothing on a modern IDE and a light weight vim config for file editing. When it comes to reading email, browsers are far better option.

This is going to be unpopular, but clunky, ugly and antiquated all come to mind when I look at emacs.

We wanted to make the product free for smaller teams to get started without worrying about who to invite. We only count active issue to the limit, and once you're done with them, you can archive them. And yes, we do have support for all users and priority support (faster response times) for paying users. We want to build a long lasting sustainable business and charging for the product is big part of it.

Just some feedback, but I would consider doing a free tier for open source projects which would get your the coverage and in turn the adoption you need. You need to win developers over who in turn influence tool procurements.

One of the things recommended is a drink right before bed that includes 1/2 cup of full fat coconut milk plus some coconut oil - it probably tastes great but I have a hard time believing their claim that it's good to drink that every night before bed.

Its a sure way to gain some belly fat.

cachestash commented on Intermittent fasting works – not only for weight loss but also for heart health   washingtonpost.com/health... · Posted by u/pseudolus

> Skipping breakfast is a psychological trick

Perhaps, but for some people it's also a physiological risk. I eat about 1200 calories for breakfast as my body otherwise cannot function for the day.

Whether fasting is appropriate depends on one's body composition, daily exertion routine and physiological factors. For most people I'd recommend exercise instead of fasting.

Do you have a medical condition? that's a lot of calories to take on for Breakfast, that's almost half my daily quota.
