broadsidepicnic commented on Mozilla appoints new CEO Anthony Enzor-Demeo   blog.mozilla.org/en/mozil... · Posted by u/recvonline

If I were the CEO, I would:

- focus 100% on Firefox Desktop & Mobile - just a fast solid minimalist browser (no AI, no BS) - other features should be addons - privacy centric - builtin, first-class, adblocker - run on donations - partner with Kagi - layoff 80% of the non-tech employees

I worked for them for many years, I guarantee you that Mozilla will be fine without all the non-sense people, just put engineers in charge.

Good, agreed. Let's just hope Anthony will read this.

Also, speaking of trust, return the "never sell your data" to the FAQ.

I use screen sharing from the official web client in Firefox on both Debian and Fedora without any issues. What issue(s) do you encounter?
broadsidepicnic · a month ago
I tried just yesterday with latest firefox and fedora, screen sharing didn't work out of the box. Only screen sharing by creating a virtual display worked, not sharing the current screen nor tab.

> Waterfox is a browser that began in 2011 as an independent project by Alex Kontos while he was a student. It was acquired and then un-acquired by Internet-advertising company System1. Its site does not, at least at the moment, have enough specifics about the browser's differences and features to compel me to take it for a test drive. Are the others that much more descriptive in their features on their website?

IMO Waterfox being around for 14 years warrants a bit of a closer look as to why it’s still around after so long…

broadsidepicnic · 9 months ago
well, a browser owned (and de-owned) by an internet advertising company is enough for me not to ever touch that. We already have a chrome, which is one of the reasons we're in this mess to start with.

And yea, I did use waterfox like a decade ago.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Strong „I worked so much harder than you“ vibes.

That might be so but he did highlight that he put work ahead of the family

> Most time goes to work, some to family.

I do two jobs, but do that _because_ I prioritize family life: I do my main (not remote) work only part time because that can't be done remotely, and do a second job (consulting, 90% remotely) on off days to make up the difference. I don't care about the money as long as we make do.

https://u24.gov.ua/ You can choose the allocation of your donation, defence, or if you'd rather donate to other causes, humanitarian aid, demining, rebuilding (...)

A few months ago in my city, an ambulance shelled by Russians in kharkiv was shown. It was quite destroyed, and chock full of holes. It was quite moving

thanks, I once again donated a bit even though cannot much.

I just feel for the guy, and for the country, too. What a friggin mess we've left them

I think governments should offer free housing to everyone who asks, in their city of choice. "But why should taxpayers pay for that? It's expensive!" Yes, it would be very expensive. But you know what's even more expensive? The sum of everybody's lowered wages, bad bosses, fear for the future, fear of having kids and so on, due to the threat of homelessness. Yes, building housing is expensive, but the removal of fear will pay for it many times over.
broadsidepicnic · a year ago
I agree up to a point, and I pay nearly 50% income tax.

In my opinion this free housing should be built within an acceptable commute ride from city centers, maybe up to 30' ride? And scattered all around, not creating any slums. Hard problem to solve, I'm sure.

Nowadays there are years long waiting lists for city housing because they have flats available in expensive areas, which I feel is not the best bang for buck from taxpayers perspective.

Uh what would be his charge? I cannot fathom how and based on what he would be charged. Maybe this is an american thing, but he's not an US citizen to start with

Found it early?..

I found the backdoor on five of my Vultr servers as well as my MacBook Pro this evening. I certainly didn’t catch it early.

So if that’s the state of it, it could very well be too late for many many companies. Not to mention folks who rely on TOR for their safety - there could be entire chains of backdoored entry, middle and exit nodes exposing vast numbers of TOR users over the past month or so (spies included!).

Very few if close to zilch companies are using rolling distros in their critical infra.
