I had the pleasure of Sandi Metz coming to a company I worked for and going us a “boot camp” of sorts for all of the engineering principles she espouses and it had a profound impact on how I view software development. Whatever the company paid for her to come - it was worth every penny.

Sandi’s books and conference talks are excellent. My faves:

There’s really nothing in the article that speaks to savings due to “AI” per se, and the timeline really doesn’t work out. I suspect this is just another executive wanting to jump on claiming “we’re AI now!”

Boost pay for the median or mean?

Why not have Veo make it?

Sounds like a great way for non-technical employees to begin not only wasting their time but engineers’ time too. I gave a clever PM read only access to our codebase and instructed him on using Claude to access it and do research, but he doesn’t have enough context to form correct questions for the LLM. Add in hallucination and it’s a recipe for a lot of time wasted.

I guess Omarchy looks cool but I remember Linux distros being just as cool in 2002 with Enlightenment and many other custom scripts and setups. Unfortunately, Linux on the desktop hasn't moved on much.

Excellent point. How do you evaluate a developer’s ability to learn and integrate new tools (like AI assistants) into their workflow?
breckenedge · 2 months ago
They’re able to give an honest assessment of the ways that they’ve changed when using these tools. And how these tools changed their own day to day, and possibly their team’s.

We’re still in the early days of this.

Do you want to hire a developer with 5+ years of LLM experience? Or 3+ years of Claude experience?

Hire learners, or hire people who teach people (evaluate new tools, write guides, conduct training, mentor, etc.).
