Is this legal speak for saying, "They're using our backdoors without our permission."?

bongobingo1 · 10 months ago
Damn, if only some one, some where, at some point, had mentioned that there's no such thing as a secure backdoor to encryption. Oh well, maybe such events are impossible to predict.

looks like a standard M2 ssd, no?

It has a different pinout in my experience. The exact spec changes between models, I think one or two models of macbook have a standard M2, some (most?) have what looks like an M2 but has extra pins when not actually soldered on.

My experience is only around trying to help a friend get the data off a fried board in a macbook, the desktops might be more standard.

Most people go to restaurants because of the social benefits, not the labour savings.

The idea of people or groups of people siloing themselves into their ultra-convenient homes and never interact with others is a dystopia and a sure sign of an already broken community.

bongobingo1 · 10 months ago
Isn't that the predominant trend already? Since like, the 70s.

I cannot speak on when it was actually introduced.

I only added my experience because bongobingo said 2021 and cited a tabloid "article" as proof.

The feature definitely predates April 2021, how long? I have no idea, possibly only 6-7 months, as I bought mine in October 2020.

kindles have displayed the book cover on the lock screen for approximately the last decade.

2021.

People have certainly been asking for it for at least the last decade. Jail breaking doesn't count.

The new “Hide Distracting Items” feature in iOS18 Safari has been a godsend for me. Just tap on the offending overlay/prompt and watch it disappear into the digital ether.

Even with ad blockers, these sign in prompts are becoming increasingly common and annoying.

Blocking Google and Reddit sign in popups especially have restored some of my sanity.

bongobingo1 · a year ago
Curious how that behaves on https://how-i-experience-web-today.com/.

I assume its blocking by origin, not behaviour? Or does that entire website just """break"""?

On the one hand... OK great for consumption.

On the other... Wouldn't this lead to terrible choices in font selection for anyone NOT using these settings?

bongobingo1 · a year ago
The "on" image looks closer to how I see fonts on macOS, so probably optimising that way has a bigger win. I don't use the system often though.

I use the minesweeper, sudoku and solitaire apps from dustland design (search pub:Dustland Design) they're very minimalistic and clean.

There's also currency / unit converter and calendar by Sam Ruston which are in the same vein very good and clean.

Love self-hosting and really got into it over the last couple of months. I run a bunch of services for my company now and also in my home lab. I use a Hetzner VPS and provision things either via ansible + docker compose files or via https://github.com/coollabsio/coolify/.

The awesome-selfhosted repository is also a great place to find projects to self-host but lacks some features for ease-of-use, which is why I've created a directory with some UX improvements on https://selfhostedworld.com. It has search, filters projects by stars, trending, date and also has a dark-mode.

Hm, is there a name for the type of software that Coolify is, where it presents a management plane for other servers, vs Dokku where it runs on the server?
