Why does this require a phone number to get any form of access?

No thanks.

Yes, have you not been paying attention? Politically motivated prosecution is modus operandi for the Trump administration...

*all administrations

Or do you believe it’s only one party? What’s your take on the 4 years Biden was in office wrt investigations and prosecutions of Democrat rivals? Clean hands, all legitimate?

For reference I’m not a Trump supporter, since that seems to be relevant to up/down votes here.

Yes, absolutely and unquestionably. This fact is blatantly, blindingly obvious to anyone who hasn't had their head buried in the sand for the past year.

*past 5 years

Which was exactly my point. It happens more than it should, and it’s wielded by both parties.

That said, as in all cases I’d like to see the evidence and probable cause and not rely on Fox News or CNN.

This trend really says a lot about America, billionaires build their own empires by getting free money from investors and the government, including huge tax breaks and subsidies. When the people ask for some of that wealth that they helped build to support universal needs, they pack up and leave without blinking. Who really has the leverage and power here?

As the richest country on the planet, there is zero reason we should have nearly a million homeless people. These leaders extract wealth from the state and then ditch town. It’s deplorable.

When I read comments like yours I always wonder why the commenter isn’t wildly successful at creating wealth for themselves and jobs for many. Why haven’t you? Why haven’t you built a big business and started giving money away beyond what the tax and regulatory laws call for?

Completely off topic: the font on that site is quite readable and easy on the eyes and brain, the way the dyslexia font on the Kindle is.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but this seems like a new kind of crime committed by the US? We've been involved in a lot of regime change operations but I can't think of one where we just straight up kidnap a foreign head of state and bring them to the US. I guess Saddam Hussein but that was after we caused the collapse?

Is the goal now to just put Maduro through a televised sham trial as a new cover for the Trump admin?

blowsand · a month ago
It has been presented as a law enforcement action to bring a wanted criminal to justice. What do you mean by “televised sham trial”? Are you suggesting the US manufactured evidence?

Have you considered this is part of a negotiated exit?

Why one time? Why not a 1% wealth tax on over $1bn?

Hell, make it revenue neutral—use it to cut everyone else’s taxes by a per-capita amount. (About $875/voter/year [1].)

Why $1bn? Is that $1bn in cash? Cash plus rare gems, excluding Sierra gold nuggets? Equities plus commercial real estate over 10 floors tall? What makes 1% a good threshold? Why not 4? Why not tax all assets on a recurring basis? Do California taxpayers still trust their government will properly and responsibly spend a $100bn tax windfall? What happens when that is spent and deficits return? Another “one time tax” on multimillionaires?

Just making a point about the poor handling of existing tax income and spending discipline, as well as the very arbitrary nature of these tax-seeking initiatives.

blowsand commented on Trump Administration to Overhaul Lottery System for H-1B Visas   ft.com/content/2e50f86f-2... · Posted by u/dsmark

The Department of Homeland Security said it would begin to implement a "weighted" selection process to give an advantage to higher-skilled and higher-paid applicants from February, according to a statement posted on its website. Matthew Tragesser, Citizenship and Immigration Services spokesperson, said: "The existing random selection process of H-1B registrations was exploited and abused by US employers who were primarily seeking to import foreign workers at lower wages than they would pay American workers."

The move is the latest in a broad crackdown on US immigration by President Donald Trump, who has dramatically stepped up deportations of immigrants and sent enforcement agents into cities across the country to carry out arrests. The change also follows moves earlier this year to curb the number of applicants for the H-1B visa, which is popular among technology and professional services companies, including charging an additional $100,000 fee.

Beryl Howell, a federal judge on the US District Court for the District of Columbia, late on Tuesday ruled the White House could move forward with the application charge after the US Chamber of Commerce had sued in October to block the six-figure fee.

I often wonder if leaving out “illegal” or “illegally present” in statements like “dramatically stepped up deportations of immigrants” is intentional, or if there’s some nuance that’s just not obvious to those of us who legally immigrated.

I mean, ok, but “scoop” is a bit much. Every fact of the deal to acquire was detailed months ago.

What would be a real scoop is reporting more details on the vast number of Bytedance employees that have been literally installed in the “USDS” organization in recent weeks. It has quickly become indistinguishable from CCP-controlled Bytedance. Allegiances are sus.
