Perhaps controlling AI is harder than people thought.

They could "just" make it not reveal its reasoning process, but they don't know how. But, they're pretty sure they can keep AI from doing anything bad, because... well, just because, ok?

I love that apart from the "Some can avoid it" bit — feels out of place with the rest. Who's "some"? Pithy slogans often come in three parts rather than four; I love the overall message, I think I'd just prefer it with that 25% removed.

Using as much energy in a day as the US central bank system uses in a year.

A decentralized payment system might be a good idea, but Bitcoin isn't a viable implementation.

How much energy does the US central bank system use in a year?

I had an idea for a long-term, online, massively collaborative game like this years ago, but had no idea how to make it. Perhaps someone else can.

Turn a picture like this into a jigsaw puzzle, and then let people place the pictures. At the start of the game only release a few pieces. As pieces are placed correctly together, spawn new pieces that fit, somewhere, on the border of the part of the puzzle already completed. As the puzzle grows, players can zoom out (like the linked artwork).

Let many, many people work on the same puzzle and maybe have an ongoing chat for collaboration "let's all work on the part in quadrant 23 (or something).

The instrument platform was listed at 900 tons. The maximum takeoff weight of a Boeing 787 is just over 500,000 pounds, or 250 tons ... is it fair to say the instrument platform was the equivalent of three fully loaded 787s, plus two M1A1 tanks piled on for good measure? That's a lot of weight for those cables to support.

I always think it's funny when people use large planes as a reference for heavy weights, since they're designed to be as light as possible for the volume.
