How does this relate to domain-driven design? It seems to be at odds with it, because in DDD it's kind of expected that the same concept will be represented in a different way by each system? But to be honest, I didn't read the whole blog post because of the UML vibes.

In the UK there is "social media intelligence", where AI systems scan the firehose of messages as they appear. [1]

So people have been arrested for posting something online, even if nobody appears to have seen it, and they delete it shortly after.

The policing is selective, depending on political view. For example, there were recently people with placards in London calling for the death of JK Rowling, which is de facto allowed by the police.

In comparison the wrong social media post can carry a lengthy jail sentence. [2]

The difference is so noticeable, it is now called "two tier policing".

If someone perceives something you say as "hateful" they can report you to the police, who can record a "Non-crime hate incident" against your name. [3]

This can show up on enhanced job checks, affecting employment.

It's very similar to a Stasi file.

You forgot to add a source for your claim that protestors called for the death of Rowling.

This service is pretty much what I, a software developer, am scared off. I expect that it will be used in order to quickly cobble something together and then hand it over to a dev for "polishing". And this sounds like a total nightmare to me.

If used like that, this service will effectively turn my job into that of an assistant to a machine.

historically, "gaining unauthorized access" IS the second meaning.
bertylicious · 5 months ago
Oh nice, I wasn't aware. I always associated hacking with "gaining unauthorized access" and googling for the first definition confirmed that I'm my eyes. Didn't know it was the other way around and the term is actually much older than I assumed.

Hacking a hackathon itself, maybe.
bertylicious · 5 months ago
But there is no irony, because it's two different meanings of the word "hacking": firstly "gaining unauthorized access", and secondly "focused programming".

I always hated that there is this second meaning. Especially since IMO it's being used to "steal" some of the glory associated with the original meaning.

When did this second meaning emerge anyway? Is this site here partially at fault?

> no single person should even own...

I don't get this, why? Because I exist I deserve equal money as everyone else?

If I do succeed I will definitely buy toys (fast cars) but yeah I will help, as there is a cap to minimum needs. Also I don't like being a target eg. stealth wealth they say that I'm currently far from.

Alright then, if you absolutely must have a society were people get paid 10M a year, then let's agree to pay all cleaning staff, hospital staff, garbage collectors etc etc 10M and the rest gets enough to live a decent life. How about that?

> and it probably wasn't even communism.

Please, tell me more! In your opinion, has "commumism" ever really existed/been implemented properly at scale? If so, please give me an example.

bertylicious · 6 months ago
There just aren't that many countries that ever claimed to be communist.

You speak like a privileged person, so you're probably born somewhere in the western world. Judging from the current time, I'd say Europe. My guess is your parents left socialist (i.e. not communist) Eastern Germany when you were little and you keep telling people that this was your great escape from communism ever since.

> Jobs didn't believe in cancer treatment

His own health choices are a private matter as far as I'm concerned. He held off too long on modern medicine and paid the price for it. Bringing it up here is irrelevant and distracting.

bertylicious · 6 months ago
It's not distracting, it's an important detail underlining the ridiculousness of this decision.

Maybe it's just me, but I think innovation awards are for people with scientific mindsets. Jobs obviously didn't have one.

Dead Comment
