I thought wayland had some restrictions on global clipboard access and the last time I tried none of the well known clipboard managers worked as expected. (Also they all looked like shit).

This has been one of my pain points switching from macOS to linux or windows. Great job.

That's interesting.. Never ran into this, been using various clipboard managers in wayland (swaywm at first, now niri) for years without issue. copyq is what I use these days and, while not quite as pretty as this one, its great!

Pretty wild how important social media is for some people.. We seem now to be at the level of public school DARE officer lecture. Everything else aside, its just amazing how much things have changed, how alien this sentiment would seem if transported back even like 15 years..

"I have been groomed into joining the social media platform of the ruling aristocracy!" This is odd right? Or am I out of touch? There just seems prima facie to be more important things to care about, but maybe I am just an old man now.

It all just feels like some ominous prelude to 15 years from now where twitter accounts are compulsory and we all get food stamps based on retweets or something..

I am working on a project that uses LLM to pull certain pieces of information from semi-structured documents and then categorize/file them under the correct account. it's about 95% accurate and we haven't even begun to fine tune it. i expect it will require human in the loop checks for the foreseeable future, but even with a human approval of each item, its going to save the clerical staff hundreds of hours per year. There are a lot of opportunities in automating/semi-automating processes like this, basically just information extraction and categorization tasks.

I also wouldn't be surprised if bean counters were expecting a return in an unreasonable amount of time.

"Hey, guys, listen, I know that this just completely torched decades of best practices in your field, but if you can't show me progress in a fiscal year, I have to turn it down." - some MBA somewhere, probably, trying and failing yet again to rub his two brain cells together for the first time since high school.

Just agentic coding is a huge change. Like a years-to-grasp change, and the very nature of the changes that need to be made keep changing.

You really set yourself up with a nice glass house trying to make fun of the money guys when you are essentially just moving your own goal posts. It was annoying two (or three?) years ago when we were all talking about replacing doctors and lawyers, now it just cant help but feel like a parody of itself in some small way.

I think overall this seems good, we knew this is where the gains from TPUs would lie and there is a nice agreement here between the need for profit and more pressing planetary (anthroposcenic?) concerns. With things like this, one might ask how much do we consume binge watching something on a streaming service, or loading a page full of js and ads and canvas elements, or even just scrolling a feed for an hour on an app.

Still, there are a lot unswered questions here, and its up in the air precisely how this stuff will continue to integrate into services we already use, or habits we have yet to form at large. What does that scaling look like?

But by far the most troubling thing is the continued combination of flippancy, defensiveness, or silence we get from the AI peiple about even attempting to talk about this. If you are a True Believer, don't you want this to be something that is tackled head on, rather than tucked away? When this has come up before, I always end up seeing a bunch of guys who essentially leave the vibe of "well I am plenty above sea level, my AC is pumping just fine, and I just simply don't care because my productivity has doubled!"

Like isn't this community supposed to be excited about a future, eager to tackle problems? Or is there maybe some intrinsic solipsism to the impressive chatbots that ultimately renders this kind of attitude to its users? It feels like right when we were culturally about to age out of this particular form of obstinacy, we set ourselves up to create a whole new generation of "global warming is fake news" people. Which is a shame. If you're going to be like this, just go all in on accelerationism in all its pseudo-facist darkness, don't just borrow a script from baby boomers!

Very cool tool, and always amazing what Emacs can do...

If this isn’t your _daily_ use case and you only need to edit video from time to time, just ask your preferred LLM to give you the FFmpeg commands to cut, speed up, mute, flip, add text, etc. This has worked quite well for me with simple use cases, and well no need to learn Emacs.

What level of institutional and cultural acceptance, de jure or de facto, would be needed to make you feel otherwise here?

Like on its face, looking around the world, this sentiment feels absurd right now. We are moving mountains to build this stuff up. AI is not the lowly underdog here, it is immediately the top of the food chain.

If things are not moving fast enough for you, that feels more like personal contradiction you are working through here. Like it almost sounds like you want this to be the 90s again and be a Cypherpunk advocating for cause, but you look around and actually you're already the suits, the feds; you're on top, and the virtuous fight for freedom was null and void from the start. So all you can do is force yourself into feeling like a victim always already. September was too short!
