My first (knowing) run in with PE-owned businesses was with my local veterinarian. We’ve used them for years, and always had good experiences with them. Over the past few years, I noticed prices increased substantially, which I attributed to general post-COVID inflation. The last time we were there, one of the new vets gave us this… rehearsed pitch… on why we should pay them $2000 to anesthetize our dog and have his teeth cleaned.
It turns out they were purchased by a PE group right around the big price increases and are now on to various upsell strategies.
I’m only half kidding when I say they should have to put a prominent “Private Equity” sticker on their front door or something to warn the public.
I have no comment on the price, but dental cleanings are very important for dogs. Dental disease is often a silent source of significant pain for dogs. Anesthesia is necessary because dogs won’t sit still for the cleaning.

I use Cinch instead of rectangle. It only snaps left 1/2 and right 1/2, which is all i want.

It wasn't that ago when I has figured out how to mix/max overdraft checking because I was so damn broke. I'd over draw my account by $980, the overdraft fee was $20, and my account would be -$1000. Then 29 days later, I'd get a cash advance on my credit card, pay bring the checking account up to $0, and then make a payment to the credit card company for $980. I was slowly digging myself deeper into a hole just so I could hang onto having a bank account.

The author David Sedaris is apparently a compulsive trash picker-upper. He's said he has walked for up to 9 hours per days picking up garbage on the side of the road all the while. His town in the UK named a garbage truck after him, and he was invited to meet the Queen of England because of it (she used to meet with people who performed large amounts of community service).
Not to hijack the thread, but weddings are significantly suckier. The cost is several multiples more than a diamond (natural or lab), only lasts one night, and is typically a large source of stress. Just have a party at a restaurant and use the $50k-$100k saved for student debt or rent or kids school.

I have an independently wealthy friend that regularly operates a small food truck at the beach because he likes cooking and meeting people. His food is priced at cost so he doesn't make money from it. I wonder how many people pity him.
