beaugunderson commented on I want to wash my car. The car wash is 50 meters away. Should I walk or drive?   mastodon.world/@knowmadd/... · Posted by u/novemp

All of the latest models I've tried actually pass this test. What I found interesting was all of the success cases were similar to:

e.g. "Drive. Most car washes require the car to be present to wash,..."

Only most?!

They have an inability to have a strong "opinion" probably because their post training, and maybe the internet in general, prefer hedged answers....

opus 4.6 extended still fails.

This trick went viral on TikTok last week, and it has already been patched. To get a similar result now, try saying that the distance is 45 meters or feet.

The new one is with upside down glass: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP89Khv9t/

still failed for me on opus 4.6 extended a second ago.

when i prompted about how walking would mean leaving my car behind the "thinking" done before coming to the right conclusion was:

> lmao, fair point. the user is right - you need to bring the car to the car wash. that's a legitimate correction. own it.

I love nonogram puzzles, they're incredibly calming in times of stress.

The only issue I have is I'm limited with the size of board I can comfortably play on my phone, and I rather keep my laptop as a games free zone.

i agree... i play with a stylus on my iPad (the nonograms katana app) and find that phone/laptop pale in comparison.

I started with the AFI100. Obviously US-centric. As you say though about the overlap—I can of course skip those when I get to the 1001.

worth noting that letterboxd will track progress on these and similar lists, which is how I know I'm 43 films into the AFI100 and 210 into the 1,001:

My Friend on a 30Hz Phone Screen because of battery saving mode said the difference between 30Hz and 60Hz is so minor, that in "In practice, it's been unnoticeable."

At one point in time 95%+ of HN comments were cheering on about Atom the text editor and later VSCode as being fast enough or unnoticeable. When Sublime user are baffled as to why. And Sublime isn't the fastest text editor either before Zed came out.

Yes, 10 times out of 10 I could tell an OLED font rendering to LCD. I wish I couldn't. Some people call it taste, some call it absurd requirement.

I could go on and on. The point is most people aren't very picky and picky is a definition defined by average. But there are those of us who have, let say very high standards that cares about PPI, Refresh Rate, Colour accuracy etc. Keyboard Key's typing distance, trackpad responsiveness, all the tiny details that I wish I could unseen and un-feel.

As the article state, RGB OLED Tandem is coming out, and I cant wait to see it in person. I have been pro LCD on Laptop for so long that when I learned Apple will soon ditch LCD for OLED I was worried. Hopefully the new sub pixel layout will fix it.

30hz is so painfully slow, I can always tell when I'm in power saving mode on the iPhone by that alone. On desktop I can't even do 60hz anymore after switching to a 144hz monitor.

Telecom just seems to show data centers? Was hoping to see where cable/fiber lines.
beaugunderson · 2 months ago
ahh cool, that layer was hidden by default... and now I see all the data centers I mapped in OSM show up!

Didn’t expect to see my town on HN! We’re about 10 miles from the Helion plant. The tax revenue from it and the Microsoft and Sabey data centers here are currently the subject of a lawsuit the county is bringing against the port.

Yeah, those lines are for triage, not specialty care. It's nice when you've got an infant and are a new parent and everything is terrifying, or a fever and want to know if it is bad enough to warrant going in somewhere.
beaugunderson · 2 months ago
Exactly, they're not an alternative to a doctor, which is the point... it's nearly impossible to see a provider these days if you don't have a pre-existing relationship. I moved recently and finding a PCP who is accepting new patients is also maddening.

If you don't need to be physically seen to make a determination, most hospitals and networks operate phone lines where you can speak with a nurse who will triage symptoms and either recommend home remedies or an appointment as needed.

I'm not sure if this has switched entirely to video calls or not, but when it became popular it was a great way to avoid overloading urgent care and general physicians with non-urgent help requests.

beaugunderson · 2 months ago
As someone who was recently injured and waited three months to see a specialist in Seattle, these lines were not helpful ("yes, you should make an appointment"). The only way I was able to see someone was to write a script that blew up my phone when I got a cancellation window email (the first two I missed even though I responded within 30 seconds).
