What is the solution regarding the display manager? As SDDMs Wayland support is considered experimental.

What do you guys use/recommend?

KDE project is working on plasma-login-manager (https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-login-manager) but AFAICT there’s no ETÀ for a stable release.

Hold on, there is a setting to switch to original audio. Just click the cog wheel on the video.

The outrage over this seems completely overblown. Do people not see the setting to switch audio?

At Amazon we had a bug that was the result of a compiler bug and the behaviour of intel cores being mis-documented. It was intermittent and related to one core occasionally being allowed to access stale data in the cache. We debugged it with a logic analyzer, the commented nginx source and a copy of the C++ 11 spec.

It took longer than 2 days to fix.

What kind of LA did you use to de bug an Intel core?

Docker is mostly based on the same stuff that LXC uses under the hood.

With the upcoming Realtek RTL8127 based products I would rather jump to 10G straight. Sadly there isn't much competition in that switch segment, I couldn't find reasonable products besides maybe Mikrotik CRS304-4XG-IN.

That’s not a switch chip. Still great that we’re finally getting cheap NICs tho

Oddly enough, I had the simplest experience of installing Windows 11 25H2 on a new ThinkPad just recently. Apparently the Windows ISO doesn't have the WiFi drivers for that specific machine out of the box, so during setup when it couldn't find an internet connection, it simply offered to create a local account.

So I would assume, if there is a way you can temporarily disable networking (e.g. in BIOS), then that would be the easiest way to avoid creating a Microsoft account.

auguzanellato · 2 months ago
They already have the local account button, they just need to consistently expose it, even if a machine has a working internet connection.

For those who care at the first setup screen instead of answering any of the questions press Shift + F10

CMD will open

Type (no quotes) “net user Prefferedusername /add” (replacing Prefferedusername with the user name you wish to use) and press enter.

Next type “net localgroup administrators Prefferedusername /add” and press enter.

Next type “net user Prefferedusername /active:yes” and press enter.

Next type “net user Prefferedusername /expires:never” and press enter.

Next type “net user administrator /active:no” and press enter.

Next type “net user defaultUser0 /delete” (this is case sensitive make sure the "U" is capitalized) and press enter.

Next type "regedit" and press enter.

This opens registry editor, navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\OOBE"

Delete "DefaultAccountAction", "DefaultAccountSAMName", and "DefaultAccountSID"

Right click on "LaunchUserOOBE" and rename it to "SkipMachineOOBE" and make sure the value is set to "1".

Close registry editor and type "shutdown /r /t 0"

Do people actually do this instead of just switching to linux?

I thought Windows was the "user friendly" choice

Yeah I am fine with OTA updates affecting anything as long as they are explicitly opt-in. I'd support mandating a physical switch that controls the power to the modem to be present.

Another nice tool is CellGuard

https://cellguard.seemoo.de/

It works on iOS devices without any extra hardware, even on non jailbroken devices, by analyzing baseband debug logs exported by the OS.

What do you authenticate against? Your shadow file is in the unencrypted area leaving it susceptible to offline attack.

With the TPM you can fully disable password auth over SSH.

auguzanellato · 3 months ago
My Raspberry Pi some time ago had a setup where only public key auth was enabled for LUKS unlock, so I only had to have an authorized_keys file unencrypted.
