I'm very curious as someone who also offers Mac software but not on the app store... why is not being on there a dealbreaker?
asqueella · a month ago
People outside US may be able to pay through App store, but not through whatever payment processor you use.

Implementing an atmospheric shader in three.js is a fun way get an understanding of the interaction of the different scattering components, light, and observer’s position. Plus you get a pretty cool effect to play around with after you’re done.

The explanation that made it click for me a while ago was by someone who implemented a shader https://www.alanzucconi.com/2017/10/10/atmospheric-scatterin... — the explanations that don't end up producing an image all seemed to skip over one detail or another.

As a dev, if you use a private method, you've just taken ownership of the problem. I suggested to you in our contract not to do it, and that it would likely not be supported, and you did it anyway. Fix your shit, common software or not.
asqueella · 6 months ago
This is what an Apple engineer could write in the electron's github issue if they refused to fix it.

We're not discussing that, but that they have pushed an update without proper testing. You can see from the other comments that breakage is not limited to people using private methods.

So you're blaming because they've changed a private API which electron not only used, but also seemed to have patched?
asqueella · 6 months ago
No, for "pushing out updates that cause issues [with very common software]".

URnetwork works where many don't http://ur.io . It used a grab bag of techniques, open source

The site is awful, and I couldn't find the technical description easily. I assume it runs an exit node for other people's traffic?

That's a pretty strict censorship that basically locks your digital infrastructure into your country.

Well, mimicking China's GFW is seemingly the objective of some governments. But they are also able to allow some light (text-based) ssh usage and still prevent proxying.

IMO, the safest route for an individual with tech competency is to setup a small instance server in the cloud outside your country and use ssh port forwarding and a proxy to get at information you want.

For an example of a proxy service https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-set-...

That will give you a hard to snoop proxy service that should completely circumvent a government blockaid (they likely aren't going to be watching or blocking ssh traffic).

Advanced enough censors (who have DPI) do block or slow down ssh, e.g.: https://serverfault.com/questions/1122015/ssh-blockedfor-for...

Skilled in what exactly? In x-raying all data storages on a system with a naked eye and spotting there a malware? In sniffing ether around the system and smelling a malicious bits on the radio spectrum coming in? How does this skill works?
asqueella · 10 months ago
Skilled in not falling for the kind of malware, that Defender is able to catch.

It’s not a very high bar: I have not seen it find anything in a long time, neither on my machines, nor on the ones I inspected after they had been owned.
