Isn't PoS inherently against decentralized nature of cryptocurrencies? You have to have money to use money

PoW is one level of abstraction away from "you have to have money to use money"; "you have to have money, to buy compute, to use money". Additionally, compute resources are subject to centralization.

Good point that Linux kernel is GPL - how can companies sell products with an embedded Linux then? They don't seem to be publishing sources.

Basically anything IoT more advanced than a thermometer seems to be running Linux.

This reminds me of a joke idea I read somewhere: You can encode the entire Encyclopaedia Britannica using a single mark on a simple stick!

Just encode the text as a ascii codes after the decimal dot of a zero. (0.656168.. etc). Then just mark that ratio of the sticks length and you're done...
