reroofing means disassembling and reassembling. You need to deconstruct, put the new roof on, then add the solar back.
alextingle · 2 days ago
The quoted cost of wasn't for the re-roofing, it was in addition to the re-roofing:

> "[solar] adds $20,000 - 25,000 to reroofing a house"

Since all of the scaffolding or whatever is already up for the roof work, if anything the solar ought to be cheaper, in that scenario.

I think what we saw during the pandemic was chilling. You could not discuss origin theories, you could not talk about Ivermectin, you could not challenge the 6 foot distancing or the surgical mask (lack of) effectiveness. The administration had "embeds" in Twitter, Facebook, Google, etc. giving them "suggestions" as to what was questionable. Canada debanked a lot of incidental people in the great trucker protest. Lots of other examples too.

Now, people may agree with the censorship, never the less it is censorship and looking back it was unproductive and now the establishment has lost many regular people who now distrust “the science.”

Then how come I heard about the Ivermectin nonsense, whining about social distancing and masks, and the ridiculous "protest" in Canada? If there was censorship, it wasn't very effective.

This is dangerous nonsense.

Even the example used on the blog post is wrong (in my timezone)...

Start = date(2020-02-23) End = date(2020-04-05)

Duration = End - Start // 42 days Duration as hours // 1008 hours

2020-03-29 was the start of Summer Time, so only 23 hours long. So the duration in question should be 1007 hours.

Having a span of time using days as the only unit is fine. But there no way to convert that into a different time unit without knowing which specific days we mean.

What happens if the duration concerns something that physically moves? Was the software running on a ship that travelled from Europe to Australia between February and April?

Honestly, gushing about how dumb everyone else is, without mentioning even basic wrinkles like this just screams Dunning Kruger.

> I'm not even talking about the fact that panels MAY act like a pool for resale. Some people DO want them--again depending on your locale--most, at this point, do NOT where I live.

A roof mounted solar array easily adds $20,000 - 25,000 to reroofing a house just in labor (assuming two electricians for one week on either side of the reroofing with labor priced at $150/hr)

If I was buying a house with a solar array on the roof I would consider it to be a liability that is going to add to the TCO of the home and ask for a discount to cover the future costs of removal. The labor to remove and replace the solar array when reroofing is never going to be paid for by the solar array, it’s just an added expense to the TCO of a home.

There are plenty of people who are not aware of the added costs of a roof mounted solar array, I just happen to be aware since I sell and run electrical work for a living.

Why do you need two electricians for a week? My rooftop solar array went up in an afternoon. They had three labourers. The (singular) electrician came in separately and worked for under and hour.

that's hilarious. well I've been outed as the knob here.

I'm laughing too. Thanks for that.

In all honesty, I thought I was being clever by swapping the sentences around to reverse the meaning, but I didn't spot the ambiguity.

i'm not debating your position. i'm clarifying that the rephrasing did have meaning, and explaining to you what that difference is.

your politics are none of my business.

alextingle · a month ago
I was the one who did the rephrasing. I was clarifying its meaning for you.

But… you have discrepancies like the town of Middlesbrough , a small North Yorkshire town with crime rates on par with large European cities and rampant poverty and drug abuse with no clear way out because no one seems willing to invest in the once infant Hercules.
alextingle · a month ago
Middlesbrough's problems are not the reason people in Dudley, or Stoke on Trent vote for fascists.

OP implies that increased far-right polling is one element of the country losing all sense.

this response implies that the country has lost ass sense and thus far-right polling has increased as an attempt to get back to sense.

alextingle · a month ago
Um, no. Sensible people don't support the far right. The country has lost all sense, so there are fewer sensible people, so the fools who vote for the far right are on the rise.
