The word tirith means guard (or watch) in Sindarin, one of Tolkien's languages from Lord of the Rings. See also Minas Tirith! I really enjoy this utility's name.

Headline is out of date. They changed their plans. From the link:

> We are not discontinuing or removing access to Adobe Animate. Animate will continue to be available for both current and new customers, and we will ensure you continue to have access to your content. There is no longer a deadline or date by which Animate will no longer be available.

Adobe’s pen tool across all titles is second to none. There is so much value in just that one tool done right.

This is very true.

So they just conveniently decided not to sign their releases right around the time they were supposedly "hacked"?

Something doesn't seem right here.

Code signing certs are unfortunately expensive

What is the advantage of using avif over using an MP4 file?
adzm · 8 days ago
Since every frame is independent they can be quickly decoded

(A little off topic?) but your comment made me appreciate AVIF.

Now if I may ask as I am not familiar with the encoder space but how good would AVIF be for say video streaming.

Like If I may ask, what's the best encoder for video live streaming in general (and is AVIF within the picture?) and an additional question being which is a good format for text based videos where there might be a huge amount of texts which might change (think a person showing terminal etc.), yes one can have a direct change of text which could be the most efficient and I am just asking it out of curiosity but what would be the second best option?

adzm · 8 days ago
AVIF frames are independent; you'd want an actual video codec for streaming. AV1 is probably the most advanced video codec that has wide support.

That is one crazy story. I need to see this done in Hollywood graphics. They're claiming the asteroid came in so low that it did a flyby of the Levant, igniting any flammable object or person on its way, and slammed into the side of a mountain in the Alps

It's definitely not what I normally picture when I think about asteroids.

A six degree angle?! That's insane. I never considered that as a possibility.

I'm completely bike shedding, but I just want to say I highly approve. Moltbot was a truly horrible name, and I was afraid we were going to be stuck with it.

(I'm sure people will disagree with this, but Rust is also a horrible name but we're stuck with it. Nothing rusty is good, modern or reliable - it's just a bad name.)

adzm · 9 days ago
Rust is a pretty apt name when you consider it was named after the fungus, which is very resilient and keeps spreading everywhere
