> AI thrives in messy, open-ended spaces

Isn't the exact opposite of what AI is good at? That sounds like a great way to get tons of hallucinations. Every "how to AI good" guide I read is all about providing it with ample structure and narrow instructions.

To be reductive about the example of a malleable task tracker (e.g. Notion), if the LLM correctly interprets the user's prompt, there's about 20-30 useful buttons in the interface, and there's a sequence of those buttons that achieves the user's desired outcome. It's open-ended in terms of what you make, but the set of available actions is fairly tight, and the problem is finding a sequence of those actions.

It's true that AI makes the slop easier.

That's actually a good thing.

Slop has been out there and getting worse for the last decade but it's been at an, unfortunately, acceptable level for most of society.

Gen AI shouts that the emperor has no clothes.

The bullshit busywork can be generated. It's worthless. Finally.

No more long winded grant proposals. Or filler emails. Or Filler presentations. Or filler videos. or perfectly samey selfies.

Now it's worthless. Now we can move on.

What do you think incentivized the mass production this "slop"? Why do you think LLMs will end the incentives to continue creating it?

Well, can you think of any reason why those young women didn't want to consider and understand the "opposing view"?

Their rights are literally being stripped away, with threats of more. Even without that, the "opposing view" is voting for a convicted rapist, known pedophile, weirdly incestuous with his daughter, incapable of forming a coherent sentence, complete lack of understanding about any complex topic such as economy, admitted to spreading lies on many ocassions, started an insurrection, and on and on and on.

For literally anyone sane, any of those reasons individually would be totally disqualifying in a candidate. Let alone for people such as young women who have a lot to personally lose from a misogynist rapist promising to strip their rights. (If you haven't being paying attention, abortion restrictions have resulted in women dying of preventable reasons because doctors are afraid to do anything which might be interpreted as an abortion, even if the pregnant woman is dying in front of them from sepsis due to an unviable pregnancy; add in the threat of removing non-fault divorces, and it's genuinely scary).

consider and understand =/= agree and support. Regardless of the Harris' or Dems' views, you win elections by getting votes. If we assume everyone who voted for Trump is a sexist asshole, then Harris was running for president in a country where half the electorate are sexist assholes. If you're not gonna extend empathy and try to build bridges with them, then there's no point in running.

I remember reading GEB and being shocked that he never mentions Lisp. He _does_ wade into CompSci topics, but it's something half-hearted about how compilers are programs that read and generate programs. This really should've been integrated into a revised edition of the book.

Trusting software at any level only becomes relevant after trust in hardware is established. In the case of Huawei, I distrust any hardware that they produce, so it doesn't matter what they run on top of it.

Automatizing creativity, some claim, is an endeavor akin to catching smoke with bare hands—futile, if not utterly fanciful. Yet, I can't help but ponder over the peculiar ballet of human ingenuity and mechanical precision. Consider for a moment, this strange juncture we find ourselves at, a place where the tools crafted by our own hands begin to sketch the outlines of what could very well be new breeds of creativity.

Let's muse on the notion that creativity, as we've known and cherished it, can be bottled up and dispensed by machines, up to a certain whimsical point. Beyond that? We stumble upon creations like these, novel tools that beckon us, the flesh-and-blood creators, to mold unforeseen "creativities." It's one spectacle to mechanize the known realms of artistic endeavor, quite another to boldly claim that machines shall inherit the mantle of creativity, henceforth dictating the contours of all future artistic landscapes.

History, that grand tapestry, is peppered with instances where the mechanical muses have dared to tread upon the sacred grounds of creativity. Take photography, for instance, a marvel of the 19th century that promised to capture reality with an accuracy that scoffed at the painter's brush. Or consider the digital revolution, which flung open the doors to realms of visual and auditory experiences previously consigned to the realm of dreams. The synthesizer, not merely an instrument but a portal, has ushered us into a new era of musical exploration, challenging the supremacy of the acoustic tradition.

Each of these milestones, while distinctly modern, echoes the age-old dance between creator and tool, where each step forward is both a continuation and a departure from the past. In this light, the question isn't whether creativity can be automated, but rather how our definition of creativity evolves as we, hand in hand with our mechanical counterparts, stride into the unknown.

> I was still caught a bit off guard. What about that high-priority project I was helping to lead? What about the training I was scheduled to deliver? What about the offsite next month?

This is the part that always confuses me. I understand why they treat employees as disposable, but it's like they don't care about continuation of business either.

I feel like everytime I've quit a job, I cared more about my succession plan than my employer just because I have professional standards I set for myself. It makes no sense to me.
