Early on, Lawnchair implemented a blacklist to hide apps they deemed “bad”. They only removed it after lots of protest from users. That has “burned” this launcher for me.

I stopped reading at "longer wavelength radiation than a standard microwave."

A microwave do not irradiate your food. Rather, it uses an oscillating magnetic field to induce dipole heating (in mainly water molecules but also other dipoles that may be present in the food).

…electromagnetic radiation?

That sure is a lot of single use NFC tags though.

These kinds of convenience features are almost never aligned with the strong passion many today have for reducing waste and helping lower our environmental impact.

RFID tags are already used for inventory management for some items/retailers. A system like this can just piggyback on the existing tags.

As someone who wanted to file taxes in Oregon this year without using anybody else's software, I was completely appalled by how inaccessible a system that literally every working American will have to interact with at some point is. They even got rid of the "Free Fillable Forms" option, so if you wanted to file and do your own taxes for yourself, you have to do the paper forms.

It's 2022, and I can't submit my government mandated math homework electronically as a private citizen. That should piss an incredible number of people off, but nobody ever seems to think about it.

But Free File Fillable Forms still works? Of course, it's only for federal returns.

I’m assuming this keeps chicken prices lower.

Is this a bad thing?

I guess it could be if it is because of gnarly things they’re doing, but if it is primarily breeding larger chickens, well, that sounds ok.

It really hurts their welfare since their skeletal systems were not designed to handle the additional weight and means they cannot really stand on their own. The chickens will also develop lesions/burns from laying in ammonia-soaked grounds, increasing risk of infection and causing unnecessary suffering.[0]

I teach high school English. I appreciate that I am able to wake up every day and live my values, but I believe my time in the classroom is coming to an end.

I’m quietly connecting with friends and acquaintances that work in tech to explore what new door to open (UX/UXR, B2B Sales, Account Management, Project Management), but I won’t actively begin pursuing a new position until July 1.

That said, if anyone is willing to discuss pathways - email is in my profile.

I've been thinking of pursuing a career in secondary education—what was your experience like, and what is prompting you to leave? Personally I struggle to see myself working in the private sector, but teaching as of late seems especially challenging.

I like watching YouTube stuff on my iPad to fall asleep, but at times the ads can make that real difficult, and I have yet to find a way to block them on the tablet.

PiHole allegedly helps with that, but afaik PiHole is only a DNS blacklister, and I already have blocked Google adservers troguh my router, tho that does not seem to help with ads in the YouTube mobile/tablet app.

I know AdGuard[0] claims to have the ability of blocking YouTube ads in Safari, but I also believe it's behind an IAP. Alternatively, an Invidious instance[1] will play videos without ads. It doesn't work for music videos (thanks DRM!), and I believe you have to set the video quality to DASH in Invidious's settings for Safari to be able to play it. Not as convenient as YouTube, sure, but if you hate ads enough I think it's worth it.
