The ridiculous thing is that Microsoft already made approximately this mistake with the Windows 8 “PC Settings” disaster.

abhinavk · 18 days ago
It's still in process. Today's update (KB5070311) added the following:

> Keyboard settings for "character repeat delay and rate", and "cursor blink rate", have moved from Control Panel to Settings.

The only reason you'd notice MS was down was if Github was down....

I only noticed it because VSCode's updater failed.

It's been pretty wild to watch the MLB go through the exact same arguments that the Cricket world went through 15 years ago when DRS was first introduced.

The game will be fine.

abhinavk · 3 months ago
It's a net positive but wide/no-ball DRS slows down the game a lot.

You can buy an M4 Air for $799 on sale frequently.[0] Meanwhile, a similar spec'ed Framework with a slower AMD CPU/GPU is $1,517.00.[1] So the repairability angle just doesn't seem worth it. If the Air breaks, just buy a new one.

Keep in mind that the M4 Air has a better display, significantly faster CPU, faster GPU, significantly more battery life, is fanless, better speakers, much better trackpad, and a thinner profile.

It is mostly valid for 16GB/256GB-SSD config and when you need performance in bursts. Consider sustained performance, more RAM, more storage, OS options etc and the value proposition changes.

I have maintained it for years that the base model M-series Air is the best computer for normal people if they plan to keep it for years.

I have tried both Silverblue and Bluefin and I realized that I want something in between. So basically Silverblue+codecs+drivers.

Maybe https://github.com/ublue-os/image-template is the way to go when I do my setup next time.

GP is talking about third person perspective games. "You" (the character you're playing) aren't the camera. You are the character the camera points to.

The camera is hovering somewhere above/behind the player character. To move the field of view left while keeping the player centered in the FOV, the camera has to translate/orbit right.

In a 3rd person perspective game, I am controlling a character that I can see with my eyes. I'm not the character.

This generally isn't my experience with GNOME.

You have to install an extension to get a dock at all.

No, there's an auto-hiding dock built-in. Pressing the Super key acts like better version of Apple's Expose feature: it shows the windows you have open, auto-opens the dock, and focuses the application launcher search bar so you can just start typing and launch an app.

You had to install a system tray extension

I'm sure you needed to at some point, but (as you mention), that's no longer the case: it's built in by default.

clipboard manager

If you mean clipboard history... That's true. Although macOS doesn't have a built-in clipboard history viewer either, and I never particularly missed having one. There are plenty of GNOME extensions with clipboard history if you want one.

Generally speaking I like GNOME much more than KDE, since GNOME's gesture support is much better than KDE's. I also personally dislike Windows-style infinitely-nesting-menu taskbars, which is what KDE uses, whereas GNOME is more macOS-like (although it has its own, IMO slightly cleaner style... And of course, it's much more modifiable than macOS).

It either requires using a keyboard or moving your mouse to the opposite direction of where the dock appears.
