They're selling a privacy-conscious Linux laptop with open firmware that's assembled in a place that isn't so privacy-friendly.[0]
I think a lot of people would pay extra for assembly in a western country. These appear made to order, so the risk of hardware implantation targeting is almost certainly real.

Almost a 1000$ extra to get a decent CPU?
Unless I'm missing something a 1.02 GHz i3 seems underpowered for a 2000$ plus machine.

There is a market for ordering drone footage from random plebs arround the world.
Given the drones range is 7km radius and images can be so perfectly stitched.
I don't see that much appeal to small area via satelite.

Surprised nobody brought up an alternative to set this up yourself.
