A very similar "how to guide" can be found here https://ampcode.com/how-to-build-an-agent written by Thorsten Ball. In general Amp is quite interesting - obviously no hidden gem anymore ;-) but great to see more tooling around agentic coding being published. Also, because similar agentic-approaches will be part of (certain/many?) software suits in the future.

This looks much better, thank you.

There are free and offline options, like Llama.cpp, but you will have to pay by giving up your privacy to Meta (or similar large companies)

How does using an offline model give up your privacy?

Also, running models locally requires good hardware to get acceptable performance. It's still a large barrier to entry.

Ok. By that definition other people have done nazi salutes in the past: Hillary Clinton, Obama, etc.

plenty of videos of that you can find online.

So those don't count, because?

Revisional_Sin · 8 days ago
No. There are videos of them waving and pointing. They look nothing like what Musk did.

It was clearly a Nazi salute.

Related question: When I looked into LASIK/SMILE recently, they said that after onset of presbyopia, they now routinely recommend "monovision", that is, regulate one of your eyes to 0 diopters, but the other to mild myopia of about -1 diopter. Then you look at far things with the former, and near things with the latter. Good old stereo vision is somewhat impacted, but not too badly apparently.

Anyone got experience/comments on that? (Presumably one could replicate it with contact lenses, in particular.)

That sounds absolutely awful.

One of the versions will be picked up. If that version doesn’t work, you can try another one. The process is exactly the same
Revisional_Sin · 19 days ago
So you need to test if the version worked yourself (e.g. via automated tests)? Seems better to have the library author do this for you and define a range.

I’ve been working on https://phrasing.app for a while now, including many iterations of the SRS. It’s been my experience that most of these sorts of improvements are really imperceptible. While I use FSRS as a base, and I’m very happy with the results it provides, it’s really only a few percentage points off of the SM-2 algorithm from the 90s. It’s slightly less stressful, definitely more accurate, but I think only astute users would even notice the difference.

I’ve incorporated many different things into the SRS, from vector embeddings to graph based association to lemma clustering to morpheme linking, and was surprised how much of these I took out.

Most of the unlocks with the SRS have been more in application space. Doing reviews with Anki feels like a chore, and I’m always counting down the reviews left to do. Reviews with Phrasing however are much more addictive, and I routinely spent an extra 30+ minutes in that “ok just one more card” loop.

We will never be able to know with 100% certainty how well you know a card, but FSRS gets us darn close. I think the interesting stuff is less about improving that metric, and more about what can you do with that information.

Thanks to the whole FSRS team btw (I assume y’all will be reading this hn post) <3

And if anyone is curious I wrote up a bit about my SRS here: https://phrasing.app/blog/humane-srs

When my wireless earphones reach 20 minutes of charge it starts warning me about this every minute. So this essentially cuts 20 minutes off it's battery life cause it's too annoying to use from then.
