Qiu_Zhanxuan commented on Swift on Android: Full Native App Development Now Possible   docs.swifdroid.com/app/... · Posted by u/mihael

Calling Expo a paid tool with metered usage is just flat out misinformation. You can promote your preferred tech without lying about alternatives.

Expo is a free open source framework that costs absolutely no money to use. You do not need to pay expo any money ever.

Expo Application Services is a set of cloud services that you do not have to use to use Expo. You can set up your own on-prem build infrastructure with fastlane and never use EAS Build. You can self-host your own EAS Updates server. You don't have to use EAS Hosting for web apps. Expo is far less coupled to EAS than Next.js is to Vercel.

Flutter for the web is terrible compared to React Native Web. It's a great way to get your company sued for violating the Americans with Disabilities Act. It literally renders to a canvas almost like the Macromedia Flash apps of old. There's also React Strict Dom now which absolutely blows flutter's web support out of the water while still supporting react native: https://facebook.github.io/react-strict-dom/

I just looked up an example flutter web app and it's completely invisible to the screen reader when I enable VoiceOver: https://flokk.app/#/ . The screen reader literally announces 'web content is empty'. You can't even select text to copy it!

Also, as far as integrations with game engines:

https://github.com/calico-games/react-native-godot

If you want complex 2D graphics like you can do with flutter, react native can also use the Skia rendering engine just like flutter with react-native-skia.

Flutter for the web is lacking but for iOS/Android/Windows it's ideal.

I actually consider the pager attack to be legal. There's obviously criticism of it, but I'm fairly sure you're allowed to do this kind of thing by laws of war.

Obviously this creates a huge problem for pretty much everyone though, since we can imagine that our ordinary consumer products from all sorts countries could similarly explode if we ended up at war with the manufacturers.

It's not legal, the consensus among human rights organizations and UN experts is that it's a violation of international humanitarian law. But I guess the American urge to see middle eastern people suffer is alive and well.

How do they compare to Flutter, I only used Flutter and I find it quite useful for my usecase, a swiping app on iOS/Android/Web with a supabase Backend.

Let's be real, it's not America's fault that the EU is dysfunctional in these regards. I'm sure that America does little to actually help, but the biggest problem the EU faces comes from their own internal corruption. Nothing gets done in Europe unless it can be restructured by their corrupt bureaucrats to pay all their friends and relatives, and the process of negotiating how to spread the graft around is highly political and takes many years. This is why the ESA is so dysfunctional despite Arianespace starting from a position of almost commercial launch market dominance at the end of the millennium. They're locked into Ariane 5 development even though it was obsolete on arrival and it will probably take them 20 years to negotiate the corrupt deals that will allow them to design and build something new. This cultural and political dysfunction in European society is entirely the fault of Europeans. India will send people to space before Europe.

Haven't said otherwise, it's our elites "impotent" mentality that is to blame (excuse my french)

As a European I have to say I am extremely jealous of a government with the willingness of doing something as radical as this.

Europe desperately needs to secure its own semi conductor supply chain. Neither the EU nor any member states seems willing to do anything about this though.

Europe still is in a position, where it feasibly could control 100% of the semiconductor value chain on the continent. But besides meaning posturing there is nothing being done.

We spent the last 30 years showing deference to good old Uncle Sam, sometimes back-stabbing other member states in the process. How would we ever have the nerves to do something of this scale with all the cooperation, supply chain logistics and engineering complexity that this would involve ?

Those people should be named and shamed.

If they're bi-national, have their citizenship revoked and them and their descendant forbidden from entering the country ever again unless they pay the tax they evaded.

The lightning generation engine is the Islamist money for terror.

And you are not addressing point #2 at all. I pointed out that the Jews know that to stay if Israel collapses is to die. You are asking them to die and you are asking that they not use their second strike capability when that happens.

When Nazi Germany was occupying the rest of Europe, it also labelled any inside movement of resistance as Terrorism. International law recognizes both occupation and colonization as crimes. Labeling and merging the Palestinians into a single entity called "the terrorists" is a lazy attempt to deny the legitimate claim for freedom and self-determination of an indigenous populations.
