There's no US law requiring encryption weakening.

That typically comes in the form of a national security letter.

The history of balanced lines (common mode rejection, differential pair, etc.) is fascinating. Apparently the first twists (as in "twisted pair" to pick up external interference as similarly as possible on each conductor) were achieved not within a bundled cable, but between utility poles. Every two spans would constitute a full twist, with two single wires alternating from left to right on the cross member.

But as for the acoustic implementation, even that has a long history. The Dead borrowed the idea from fighter pilot headsets, the only difference being that pilots were contending with a noisy cockpit rather than feedback. Same general idea that the unwanted sound hits both mics somewhat equally while the voice hits both mics somewhat unequally.

This goes WAY back to long-run trunked telegraph cables. They would use different twist rates and handedness as well.
HumanProtractor commented on KeePassXC Debian maintainer has removed all network features   fosstodon.org/@keepassxc/... · Posted by u/CuriousIndian

If both upstream and a significant portion of users strongly disagree with a maintainer's judgement, then how is their role as maintainer justified?

It's KeePassXC's job to secure the software and produce features that fulfill users' needs as they see fit. Julian's role as maintainer may intersect with that to a limited extent, in deciding on what kind of defaults best fit the rest of the OS. But, in this case, the developers of the software disagree with his justifications, and reasonable users are also disagreeing with the change.

It seems clear Julian wandered outside his role a bit here.

Upstream's irrelevant to a maintainer. Downstream? Maintainers typically know best, that's why the user chose that distro. I bailed on Debian when they decided to go systemd. That's Democracy.

Russia, China, Iran, and NKorea see themselves at war with The West. It is wishful thinking on The Western people's part that leaders (mostly) will not to acknowledge it publicly, and take the necessary actions with purpose and conviction

China owns the west. We won't do anything to stop them or their allies, not anything serious.

Why of all things do we choose Art to emulate with AI? Is it because we have such poor understanding of what makes good Art that it helps to sell the technology? Time and time again, those who know Art are insulted by this product while the average AI company pats themselves on the back thinking they must be doing something right to piss off the Art snobs. What they're missing is that using AI this way is just pointing out how little the general population understands about Art.
