Usually I am a big fan of HN comments. But this thread... So much cynical speculation. So little factual information.

Go ahead and downvote. I've got karma to burn.

This feels like one of the quotes that needs to be quoted and I would quote you if I can understand what you mean by "turns out someone else made both" as maybe its me who didn't get its meaning (so can you please explain what you mean by this? thanks in advance!)

I think they mean: turns out someone else made both the computer system and man. They are implying the existence of god.

Then why are the only lab grown meat products ground / reconstituted ? I'm only going off a interview with a startup CEO that pivoted to lab grown egg white because of the aforementioned challenge. You can keep sterile petri dishes, but if you try to reach even a chicken nugget sized piece of solid muscle, you aren't going to keep it free of contaminants.
Hnrobert42 · 6 days ago
I thought the ground/reconstituted part was because they couldn't form long chain proteins. Or at least they could not simulate the structure of muscle tissue over long stretches. That is, they could make ground beef, but they couldn't make steak.

No, you didn't see anything. I've been writing like that since very long before LLMs did it, mostly because I'm considerably older than that. I'm sure if you go back to 2008, the first year that I participated in HN you'll find plenty of examples.

Perhaps you and those of your ilk are the source.

It's sad you feel this way. I find the commentary here the most enjoyable part of the internet. On balance, folks are thoughtful and knowledgeable about a wide variety of subjects. They are respectful even when disagreeing.

It's interesting that we can have polar opposite perspectives.

How would this affect DDOS attacks? Would it make you more vulnerable?

Hey Siri, remind me in three years to look for keratin based toothpaste.

I am really curious about the sinusoidal delay graph. It seems like average flight times rise and fall once a year.

Is it summer travel then holiday travel then a winter spring slump? That would support the author's hypothesis that congestion is to blame.

I have added what I think they call login alias to my account. This blocks logins using the normal account username (which is my public email address), and only allows them via the alias (which is not public and just a random string). Not a single foreign login attempt since I enabled the alias.

You can enable it on account.microsoft.com > Account Info > Sign-in preferences > Add email > Add Alias and make it primary. Then click Change Sign-in Preferences, and only enable the alias.

Hnrobert42 · 18 days ago
Then, is the login alias sort of a password? In that, it is something you know.

> Passkeys is the way to go. Password manager support for passkeys is getting really good.

I set up a passkey for github at some point, and apparently saved it in Chrome. When I try to "use passkey for auth" with github, I get a popup from Chrome asking me to enter my google password manager's pin. I don't know what that pin is. I have no way of resetting that pin - there's nothing about the pin in my google profile, password manager page, security settings, etc.

Hnrobert42 · 18 days ago
That is unfortunate, but that sounds more like a chrome problem than a passkey problem. You would have the same issue if chrome saved your password.
