I enabled image.jxl.enabled in LibreWolf and works. It doesn't work in Firefox Beta, though?

There's a jpeg xl viewer extension available for firefox.

I skipped some bits of the video so probably missed this, but: in the beginning he mentioned no spark or glow plugs and said “similar to a diesel”, but in the end that didn’t work and he had to resort to a glow plug.

Did he mention what fuel he was using for the compression-only attempts? If not actual diesel, it seems like he would have had to use ether or something like that.

Frenchgeek · 3 months ago
He did: It was just warm enough for the ether in the mix to evaporate long before it reached the engine, so it couldn't run.

In many ways being able to run something on a stable, well emulated, platform can be a better way to know some tool will always be around than to have the source code for the tool itself (even if that is definitely also a good thing). There is a much better chance that someone will e.g. keep maintaining some forks of DOSBox to keep it running than that there will be people around to maintain a specific tool. Not sure how that looks for MacOS applications? Of course support for running fully offline and without messy DRM is a must.

The nice thing about Ventoy—and I didn’t fully appreciate this until I used it—is how simple it makes bootable USBs. You just drag and drop ISO images onto the drive, and it can hold as many as will fit. When you boot from the Ventoy USB, you just pick the image you want to install or run—no re-flashing, no fuss.

It’s honestly wild how convenient it is. Ventoy was the only method that worked for me when I needed to install Windows alongside an existing Linux setup for dual-booting. Everything else I tried failed, but Ventoy handled it perfectly.

It sure make it easy to boot a 64bits OS on a 32bits UEFI machine...

Hell hath no fury like an engineer angered! This was such a good read and epitomizes hacking:

"Was it worth it? To read one book? No. To prove a point? Absolutely. To learn about SVG rendering, perceptual hashing, and font metrics? Probably yes."

Well, it would be nice to be able to use my Kindle 4 again... Thanks to KOReader, it's no longer a brick, but most of my ebooks are kept hostages at Amazon.

Android is Linux. It has loads of users and loads of games.

The Android version of the game Fractal no longer work (So I use the Windows version). And the only way to play the Steam version of Dungeon Defenders on Linux is to use the Windows version instead of the native one.

Even if Windows ever did disappear as an OS, it would remain as a backwards compatibility layer apparently...

> Anyone who can't find use cases for LLMs isn't trying hard enough

That's an interesting viewpoint from an AI marketing company.

I think the essential job of marketing is to help people make the connection between their problems and your solutions. Putting all on them in a kind of blamey way doesn't seem like a great approach to me.

Is "finding a way to remove them, with prejudice, from my phone" a valid use case for them? I'm tired of Gemini randomly starting up.

(Well, I recently found there is a reason for it: I'm left handed and unlocking my phone with my left hand sometimes touch the icon stupidly put by default on the lock screen. Not that it would work: My phone is usually running with data disabled.)
