I have some servers sending their telegraf data to a server in my home using the tailnet instead of opening a port on my firewall for that, to name one use case.

It has a pretty good ACL functionality, you can configure which hosts with certain tag can access certain routes.

I use Headscale with Tailscale clients, and the Apple TV is very nice to have. Netbird seems to be working on one but it’s not out yet?

Simlar (sad) story in Spain, very recent. Airtags and Find My are known by police by now. When my friends bag was stolen, he located it on the police station via Find My. It was located in a residential multi-story house nearby, which was known by the police. The place is known to house several members of organized petty crime. Police told him they cannot do anything as they can't enter the house without a warrant and won't get one just based on his testimony.

Yup, that’s how it is sadly, happens every day in Barcelona. Once it’s inside a building they can’t do anything.

That’s just the 1st thing that ocurred to me to test it. I think what most people are hyped about it is related to give it access to your reminders, notes, notion, obsidian and then treat it like an assistant that proactively helps you by running scheduled tasks that are useful to you. That’s why some are recommending running the thing on a Mac Mini if you are in the Apple ecosystem, so it can create reminders etc.

I’ll keep playing with it on a VM and see where this goes.

Tried it for a bit yesterday on a macOS VM.

I told it my local mqtt broker hostname and it figured out I have some relays using tasmota, then told it should remember how to toggle those lights and it did. I used Z.ai GLM 4.7 through OpenRouter as its brain.

It’s definitely worth checking it out, but keeping in mind the amount of things it can run by having a whole computer to itself.

Headscale is only really useful if you need to manage multiple users and/or networks. If you only have one network you want to have access to and a small number of users/devices it only increases the attack surface over having one wireguard listening because it has more moving parts.

I set it up to open the port for few secs via port knocking. Plus another script that runs on the server that opens connections to my home ip addr doing reverse lookup to a domain my router updates via dyndns so devices at my home don’t need to port knock to connect.

Life is good? Your feeling about the goodness of life depends on if a powerful country captures the leader of another country?

Whatever you think of the morality and ethics of the man, the precedent, the outcome, the extrajudicial action is opening the door for less law and order in the world.

This sets a precedent that the US is back to regime change and world policing, and that went swimmingly in the past as we all know.
