Surprised gov doesn't just buy it and adjacent buildings out and close it.

If even one worker gets cancer from it then the math likely works out (nvm the suffering).

DuskStar · 3 years ago
It's less radioactive than Denver. Like, all of Denver.

Typical American solution: Hey, instead of actually removing the waste, let's just cover it up with lead shielding.
DuskStar · 3 years ago
As opposed to the European solution, where you know there's explosives in that field over there but you only deal with the stuff that floats to the surface each year.

> Why is a white minority a bad thing?

I addressed this question: "Or will that leave them as individualists in a country dominated by inter-group competition, as current polls suggest?"

Of course this is not guaranteed - once Whites are a minority (in the US, not just globally), other races in the US may also turn away from in-group preference, and the culture might turn away from harping on white privilege all the time. It's just that that hasn't happened yet.

DuskStar · 3 years ago
The reverse is also plausible, and whites could begin to show in-group preference again.

I’m particularly afraid of it on Amazon, where a $20 dispute could nix my 800+ book Kindle library.
DuskStar · 3 years ago
I would strongly recommend cracking the DRM on those when you have the chance.

One thing is that KSP uses manual staging, so timing of engine burns kind of matter. Is there features in vanilla KSP to automatically trigger staging?
DuskStar · 3 years ago
As long as you pay some minimal level of attention this shouldn't be a problem. 10s delays between stages won't prevent something with a minimum TWR of 2 and 4000m/s of combined dv from reaching orbit.

So what if the cause was bureaucratic rather than technical? That's worse in many ways. It means countries can't be trusted with making nuclear technology. All the flaws in the design and location of this plant were fully known and simply ignored. It's a fallacy to expect this won't happen in other places.
DuskStar · 3 years ago
I think you're missing the distinction. It's not that bureaucracy caused the meltdown, it's that the bureaucratic reaction to the meltdown was the source of the damage.

Painless, reliable: that'll be barbiturates like Nembutal. But it takes about half an hour, and you need about 10g. So not compact or fast.

Maybe ricin?

DuskStar · 3 years ago
Carfentanil, maybe?

There are three reasons I think your post here is naive (maybe too combative here, sorry):

- politically, the smart thing to do is bury SBF. There's no upside to sparing him.

- throwing the book at him sends a message to all other would be scammers, again at no cost

- powerful people can be powerfully vindictive when you expose them to risk and embarrassment

I agree Democrats shouldn't have taken SBF money, or any crypto money. It's always been an obvious scam and it's incredibly bad for the planet. But I admit the facts are esoteric, and we really wanted to beat Trump, because he's also really bad for the planet (remember that one time he spent years weakening NATO and building up Putin, and then Putin invaded Ukraine and set the world economy on its head and threatened to starve/freeze hundreds of millions of people?) No good option here, is what I'm saying.

The upside to saying "yes I can be bought" is that people will give you boatloads of money.

They aren’t outlawed federally. They’re just subject to a $200 tax stamp.
DuskStar · 3 years ago
Getting the tax stamp takes several months, unfortunately.

And you need a new stamp if you want to transfer it to another person.
