Cyclone_ commented on Australia begins enforcing world-first teen social media ban   reuters.com/legal/litigat... · Posted by u/chirau

To be honest, I wouldn't mind they'd ban it for adults too, would help me from wasting time on them.

In all seriousness though, I'm curious what counts as social media, can they not play MMORPGs anymore for example? Are niche forums included ? What about chat apps like Whatsapp? Phone texting? Email?

I'm also curious if say TikTok and YouTubed simply deactivated their social features? No comments, DMs, and so on for example? Would they be allowed again?

It looks like for now the ban is just limited to 10 apps. There's quite a few which are arguably worse that received an exception.
Cyclone_ commented on Dollar-stores overcharge customers while promising low prices   theguardian.com/us-news/2... · Posted by u/bookofjoe

Note that this law is only for certain products. We would have people at the liquor store I used to own point out mislabeling occasionally and claim we owed them the $10 difference from this law. While we tried to work with customers when we made a pricing error, not only does the accuracy law not apply to alcoholic beverages, but it would often be illegal for us to offer the customer the mistaken price. Alcohol retailers in MA are not legally allowed to sell their products for less than they purchased them.

That's probably aimed at reducing consumption.

I am not familiar with the legal system in Sweden, but it seems odd that it would be a police report instead of a lawsuit.

It's not gaslighting. They were transparent enough to own their mistake. The donation isn't really the main story.

Summary: CTO of a small company codes. I don't see any issues, and it's not surprising.

I've heard of plenty of CTOs coding at small startups, but the surprising part is he has no direct reports.

> […] the industry’s actual AI revenue is closer to $20 billion annually […]

I’m shocked, is it really this small? I’ve had some trouble finding a source for this number.

I am assuming that when they say AI they just mean LLMs and not other cases of deep learning. Even so I would agree the $20 billion seems low.

I've used it for creating a template for an app. It usually creates a pretty accurate app with at least a basic UI and some interactions. The biggest issue is that once you've created the template, it's pretty tough to add some more complicated features using the AI.

I liked the search results a lot better when the ads were on the side. You could see a competitor if that was of interest to you, but you didn't have to scroll when you wanted to just find what would likely be a top result.
