AI judge changes it mind if you close its judgement and click it again. First AI won. Then I accidentally reopened it and I won.

Enlighten me - what's stupid about it?
Clampower · 3 years ago
Phew where do I begin?

From a sustainability POV, using living beings for milk production is vastly worse than a plant based alternative.

From a animal friendliness perspective, it abuses the same animals that would be slaughtered for meat, for long periods of time in cruel ways.

From a business and consumer POV, this limits your burger to only Omni and vegetarians, excluding the entire market of vegans, and people with dairy intolerances who would opt for this option instead.

All around a PR inspired, stupid half measure that is insulting at best.

Reading about the unsustainability of the plant based fake meats was all it required for every single person I know who cares about such things to never even try them.

McDonald's did a lot of things wrong with their plant-based meat burger. If you want to see it done right, just take a look at Burger King. In Germany, you can now substitute animal meat for plant-based meat in every burger, and on top of that they have very tasty plant-based burgers like the long chicken and vegan chicken nuggets. In Vienna, they've opened their first 100% plant-based location.

And yes, Beyond Meat's stock is not doing well, but this doesn't mean plant-based meats in general aren't doing well.

McDonald’s Netherlands did the most idiotic approach. They started offering vegetarian burgers that were made of like 80% dairy. So incredibly stupid I still can’t believe it.

I prefer to eat the vegan whoppers. I’m not vegan but don’t like eating trash meat of bad quality. Hadn’t been to BK in years, now it’s a regular option for me because I’m not disgusted by the bad quality meat and enjoy the occasional easy fast food burger.

I also buy Beyond Burgers for at home. I prefer them to many many other real meat burger patties from the super market. Beyond meat is delicious.

The trick to improving YouTube recommendations is to regularly prune uninteresting videos and channels. Eventually this should start surfacing videos you're more likely to find interesting.

I've actually hit the end of my recommendation stream on the mobile app after marking dozens of videos with Not Interested. Once this happens it starts recommending videos you've already watched or older videos from creators you've been watching lately.

Personally, I'd love it if you could curate the recommendation system a bit more. I'm never interested in rewatching stuff I've already seen. And the recency bias for recommendations means you're always getting more if what you've recently consumed. I'd like it if more older interests were mixed in. Finally, I'd love to be able to blacklist certain topics and games entirely.

There's so much missed potential with YouTube recommendations.

Some might say that you can still use search, but that has been crippled to include unrelated recommendations after one page of results. Not only that, I want YouTube to help me discover new content. When the recommendation system works and it shows me new kinds of interesting stuff, it's superb. TikTok is eating YouTube's lunch in this regard.

Edit: forgot to mention this. On mobile if you do a recommendation refresh it'll show a New to You filter which you can use to explore more diverse recommendations. I don't know why it's hidden in this manner.

I watch a fair amount of tech stuff on YouTube. Lately, it’ll recommend me product release videos (Samsung Galaxy S2) from 10 years or so ago.

YouTube is hilariously bad.

I’d like some advice please.

I am currently freelancing with one major client. I only work 3 days a week which is great and I make a good amount of money. Client is a small company, seems financially secure, but eh could also go belly up I suppose. They offered me a fixed contract but it would be for less money than I now make freelancing, +4 days a week. Should I take less cash and less freedom for the security that a fixed contract would bring (and eventual governmental support of the company goes belly up)?

whatsapp pre-fb only costed money for iphone owners. And many iphone owners had a credit or debit card linked to their apple ids.

This is not true. I remember paying 99c on Android.

For me, YouTube is literally the same - I get the same videos thrown into my feed in repeat. Apparently this converts well for YT and the result is that my feed is maybe 10% genuine discovery. The rest is shit.

YouTube also does this weird thing for me where, for example, I watch a couple of videos of an android related YouTube channel about new phones, and then it’ll recommend me videos from 2008 about phones being released then. Lol
