ChildOfChaos commented on GPT-5.1: A smarter, more conversational ChatGPT   openai.com/index/gpt-5-1/... · Posted by u/tedsanders

I don’t want more conversational, I want more to the point. Less telling me how great my question is, less about being friendly, instead I want more cold, hard, accurate, direct, and factual results.

It’s a machine and a tool, not a person and definitely not my friend.

Agreed. But there is a fairly large and very loud group of people that went insane when 4o was discontinued and demanded to have it back.

A group of people seem to have forged weird relationships with AI and that is what they want. It's extremely worrying. Heck, the ex Prime Minister of the UK said he loved ChatGPT recently because it tells him how great he is.

Does this finally fix the shitty audio quality when using a wireless headset's microphone?

I just bought a separate mic to attach and it works so much better, the modmic or tonor tgp1 are the way to go.

It's about convivence. It's not been about big ticket items for me on such days lately, but more to stock up on essentials, prime day is a day I can assure they are usually all on 'offer' at the same time so it makes it easy to do a large order of everything and stock up.

Sure, might not be the absolute best price of the year, but it's a decent price for everything all at the same time, with the odd bigger ticket stuff if a real deal exists.

This year I bought a lot of household items, toiletries and even a few food cupboard items, all of which according to price tracker plugins are about the lowest they get to, even if they go that price sometimes throughout the year, it's a great time to do one big shop and not have to deal with the pain of receiving so many deliveries.

I don't see it as an issue, what amazon does is what everyone else does on their sales, you just need to do your research and stay aware, like with anything.

I think that the Gemini 3 pro might be next month I am not sure.

can I get the sources of your rumour please? (Yes I know that I can search it but I would honestly prefer it if you could share it, thanks in advance!)

Bens bites was suggesting we might be Gemini 3 pro and Claude 4.5 this week.

To be honest, I hadn't heard that elsewhere, but I haven't been following it massively this week.

I know this is not a popular opinion, but Johny Ive is out, if Tim Cook were to retire we should bring back Scott Forstall in.

Very unfortunate the current state of Apple could have been so much better. They finally have the resources to stop worrying about the bottom line. Instead all they cared about are their bottom line now.

And they are about to loss the $20B annual profit from Google.

Does any company that finally gets the resources to not worry about the bottom line, ever stop worrying about it? That sounds like an ideal they tell themselves when smaller until they get hooked on it.

Yep.

I have been waiting for GPT 5 to hit my account and kept asking it the model, it was 4o until this morning.

Then this morning it said it was GPT 5 and would I like to code and design a stress test for it to compete against 4o, it kept assisting this was something I should do even though I didn't ask and then kept skirting around it when I told it to do it, before it realised it couldn't.

Considering how expensive it is, I'm surprised so many people are doing it.

Here in the UK, I'd much rather just cut my diet a little bit. Faced with the choice of eating less or paying around £250 a month for the maintance dose, that's actually a huge motivator to get me to diet.

ChildOfChaos commented on MacBooks account for 86% of total Mac sales; Mac desktops just 14%   macdailynews.com/2025/03/... · Posted by u/walterbell

Makes sense. I used to work in electronics retail around 10 years ago and barely anyone bought a desktop unless it was gaming.

Now I work in corporate IT and all the desktops are being replaced during the next upgrade cycle. The desks have docking stations and everyone has a personal laptop that they can use for WFH or the office.

Personally though, I prefer a desktop at home, I like to sit at my desk and use a big screen to get stuff done, if portable, a laptop is too annoying and I usually only want to look up stuff or view content, so for me Desktop + iPad is the best combo.
