Odd choice for a Hacker News article.

Shes kind of an e-girl so I guess it makes sense in a way.

Well written article!

So you want to create a completely new industry. From the ground. With all existing experts having retired. Demanding high quality, no-fault tolerance production. Dependent on resources not found in Europe.

Look, I love nuclear technology. But time has moved on. The costs to rebuild this industry is astronomical and means we lose out on key-future technology like batteries.

Edit: But then there are bombs. And especially French love their nukes due national security. This is the only reason to keep pushing for nuclear, since Russia, the US and China are not gonna change direction on this either. But the very least we could do is be honest about it.

Edit 2: Changed from "World has moved on" to "time has moved on", since evidently China has invested for a good 2 decades to build their own fully functional nuclear-industry. Proving my point that it takes dedicated investment, network effects and scale to rebuild this industry. After all, they too want to mass produce nukes.

First off, it's a doujinshi—not a manga. Then, I don't know why it is tagged as "rape" and "incest" as it has neither. If you read it carefully:

> Next, we'll talk about the "room you can't leave until you have sex"

> which as introduced as a measure to address the declining marriage rate and birthrate

I don't see why I wouldn't use this as an example.

BigTTYGothGF · 3 days ago
"Doujinshi" is a method of distribution, not a medium.

> I don't know why it is tagged as "rape" and "incest" as it has neither

Incest: The dramatis personae (https://nhentai.net/g/609087/4/, mostly SFW if your boss doesn't mind fully-clothed underboobs) introduces the characters as step-siblings. (And page 11 the male character refers to the female character as "family".

Rape: The premise is inherently rapey as one is not allowed to withdraw consent after entering the room. Also the bottom of page 15 the male does not look like he had consented to the events of that page and the previous.

It's not controversial that the Norse made it to modern day Newfoundland.

Yeah but they didn't stay.

Austronesian language family is wild. How could a language family be spoken both in New Zealand and Madagascar blows my mind. At least indo-european is connected by land, but an entire language family that spans thousands of kilometers across sea sounds something straight up from a Tolkien book.
BigTTYGothGF · 3 days ago
Even before the events of 1492 Indo-European had made it from Iceland (Vinland if you're nasty) to the Maldives.

> If the government wants that they can have the kids. What is my incentive to have children in that system?

You may not have the incentive, but the country population will decline if you don't. If you are a government, I'm sure there is a number of ways to make people have children, for example https://nhentai.net/g/609087/. If you are something like Russia or Ukraine, you can force women to have children, just like you force men to go to war.

> We have far more problems caused by governments doing a bad job than parents doing a bad job. In general parents do a far better job than government employees do.

But yes, if there is no way to make education workers do good job, then I guess this system will not work.

> for example https://nhentai.net/g/609087/.

For those who might be at work, or are otherwise sensible, this links to a hentai manga called "Vacation in a room you can't leave until you have sex", the cover of which has a picture of a naked lady with implausible anatomy; the tags include but are not limited to "rape" and "incest".

One wonders the reasons behind the choice of this particular example.

What makes you say that? To me it's clearly Japanese (the "-chan" by itself is a dead giveaway) and there's way too many open syllables to feel Korean.

The German Democratic Republic had state-run universal daycare from ages 0 to 18 (Krippe, Garten, POS, FDJ). It was commonly seen as a bad thing by western societies, because it gave ample opportunity to indoctrinate.

PS: POS and FDJ are not really daycare but school and youth org, but they provided services exceeding what we connect with those ideas.

One wonders how much of this viewpoint was itself indoctrinated.

I was just selling my RTX 4090 on Ebay recently and got a ton of bids from Chinese accounts. The winner ($2,325) had Australia set as the country on their profile, but a Chinese name on the account, and the order shipping address was to a different Chinese name (to a regular single-family house in Delaware). Most bidders straight up had China as their profile country.

So my 4090 (24 GB) is probably going to get turned into a 48/96 GB VRAM frankenstein in a Chinese chop shop. I haven't watched the full 3.5 hour documentary you linked but from the first few minutes, it seems quite interesting. And covers this exact thing.

Edit: Again, I checked the address, it was a house, not a freight forwarder warehouse. And if it was actually going to AU, the forwarder would be on the west coast in CA/WA, not east coast (had another order go to Thailand with a forwarder in SF. And Miami is the big hub for South America). For legit freight forwarding they also wouldn't have different names on the account & shipping address. As the parent comment's YT video describes, these are often just normal Chinese-Americans or international students who do this to make a bit of extra money.

you say that like it's a bad thing! Now everyone can feel like a billionaire!

but I think you are on to something here with the origin of the sycophancy given that most of these models are owned by billionaires.

In the "like being kicked in the head by a horse every day" sense.
