Don't know about other sites, but I stayed at Marriott ... their web site is torturous.

I can't disagree.

Do you mean would we add a dedicated section on HN for 3rd party customer support issues? That's a legit question.

This is when it's particularly helpful to have only one thing we're optimizing for [1] because it means we can replace that question with another: would it make HN more intellectually interesting? The answer is clearly no, I think, because those threads tend to be so repetitive.

Knowing which company, that your live depends on, know how to make things right is crucial knowledge - thus the popularity of those threads IMO. When years of your life gets deleted in seconds, and the company starts ignoring you, that's the red flag that needs to be public. I'm not advocating for separate section, but the public have spoken - the popularity of those threads means it's crucial part of this community.

HN constantly mentions DDG is really just Bing in disguise and they're essentially the same. However, that can't be entirely true because they produce different results for the same search term.

https://www4.bing.com/search?q=obscure+search+term

That being said, when Bing censored "tank man", DDG's image search also produced 0 results for "tank man".

Did you try in incognito? Your search gave me nearly identical results.

Am I out of my mind? Isn't wordle just a faddy little mobile game?

BartBoch · 4 years ago
No, you're not. I think the OP got carried away. Few years back everything new with at least minimal social touch was "New Social Network"

Good for them! I am surprised Amazon hadn’t purchase them by now.

I really think Netlify can do something incredible if they can offer an e-commerce solution (Stripe/Square/EasyPost/Shippo) that can compete with Shopify. And probably why Vercel is moving in this direction.

This can go really close to antitrust laws - I am not sure if the risk is worth it.

There's a few "plant trees" or "terraform the sahara" comments in here.

For some context, if we planted trees wherever we could around the world we can only undo a decades worth of emissions[0].

Not only that but it would still take a century for the trees to reach maturity.

Our use of technology threw nature out of balance and we need to use technology to get the balance back again.

Not a solution, but still - check "Oxytree". It's a tree "farmed" in Europe, that was created in Spain. Within 6 years it grows to 16 meters. You can cut it almost completely, and it will regrow. You cut it then every 4 years. It will regrow multiple times. The tree as far as I know cannot re-plant itself (so its not invasive), and it absorbs up to 10 times more CO2 than regular trees. It's still young project, but more and more countries create plantations of it (also as a way of CO2 recapture).
