AuthConnectFail commented on Waymo rides cost more than Uber or Lyft and people are paying anyway   techcrunch.com/2025/06/12... · Posted by u/achristmascarl

I'm in LA, so I'm still skeptical about "safer". Granted, that's not a high bar, but I know who's accountable if an Uber/Lyft crashes.
AuthConnectFail · 3 months ago
but do you care for accountability or more safety (through lower crash rate)at the end of the day?

Youtube (like every other popular web platform) will keep pushing the button that says "make more money by degrading the user experience" until it (eventually) stops working. It's basically the iron law of encrapification.

they are trying to move to subscription model, seems like a reasonable alternative

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but every time I ask gemini 2.5 for code it outputs SO MANY comments. An exaggerated amount of comments. Sections comments, step comments, block comments, inline comments, all the gang.

you can ask it to remove, it does p good job at it

So Google released Gemini 2.5 and one hour later OpenAI comes with this. It’s almost childish at this point.
AuthConnectFail · 5 months ago
its other way around, openai was gonna announce it so Google upstaged

Superficially impressive but what is the actual use case of the present state of the art? It makes 10-second demos, fine. But can a producer get a second shot of the same scene and the same characters, with visual continuity? Or a third, etc? In other words, can it be used to create a coherent movie --even a 60-second commercial -- with multiple shots having continuity of faces, backgrounds, and lighting?

This quote suggests not: "maintaining complete consistency throughout complex scenes or those with complex motion, remains a challenge."

short video creation tools, its a huge market

We’re definitely going to need better benchmarks for agentic tasks, and not just code reasoning. Things that are needlessly painful that humans go through all the time

it's insane on lmarena for a size, livebench should have it soon too I guess

Most creators only have a small percentage of revenue from ads. A lot of the creators I like are demonetized anyways. Superchats and paid comments are way more lucrative than ads.

Google is in the malvertising business. Creators are not.

AuthConnectFail · a year ago
this is just not true, even the huge creators mention that it's usually 30-50% of their revenue.
AuthConnectFail commented on Amazon virtually kills efforts to develop Alexa Skills   arstechnica.com/gadgets/2... · Posted by u/Stratoscope

I just read an article about a 19-year old making $10,000/month from the Alexa developer incentive program. It's sad that this will be ripped out from him and other developers in a few months.

I stopped trusting Amazon years ago when they banned my seller account and my business was shutdown overnight. After 15 years, I finally got my account back with no explanation. At this point, I no longer care and have moved on.

AuthConnectFail · a year ago
it's subsidy, personally feel like that shouldn't be your model for sustaining that is barely amazon's fault here, they did their part but there doesnt seem to be market around it

Any reason why Waymo is so much more expensive than alternatives? I went across SF last weekend and Uber/Lyft was around $16. Waymo was $56.
AuthConnectFail · 2 years ago
they are usually couple of dollars more (for $20 range rides) but I think their demand supply is so skewed that it surges almost all the time it feels like
