How quickly did GrapheneOS roll out the update?
AlgebraFox · 6 days ago
Faster than Google. Literally.

that is simply wrong.

GrapheneOS is both in terms of security and privacy the best but currently only supports pixel phones.

LineageOS is trying to support as many devices as possible still with lot of google connections and missing security updates.

>Good news is that if you have a boot passphrase, it's security is somewhat close to GrapheneOS

its not anywhere close https://grapheneos.org/features

This is the correct response. I use both GrapheneOS and LineageOS. But LineageOS focus is on delivering newer versions of Android to many phones abandoned by their OEM. GOS exclusively focuses on security and privacy. If you want a reasonably secure phone but don't want Google or Apple inside your device, your best bet is GOS.

> may i ask how you obtain the source? Are you registered as an OEM at Google?

Same question, how does Graphene get patches?

AlgebraFox · 9 days ago
Yes. They've parterned with an OEM. In fact, they are making an official GOS phone with that OEM.

Atleast you were trying to poke around their APIs. My WhatsApp account was banned totally for no reason. They blocked my two year old account for the only possible reason of using GrapheneOS. This company deserves to die.

No, one should never ever talk to journalists. Nothing good can come from it. Never assume good faith from journalists.
AlgebraFox · 24 days ago
It's true with Indian journalists. You say one thing and they twist it the other way around.

>While censorship is one thing, they forgot another overlooked ability of these app stores: pushing unwanted apps/services to our personal devices without our knowledge

When was the last time the play store or app store pushed apps "without our knowledge"? I've only heard of it done by shady third party bloatware that OEMs bundle with the OS. The actual issue is a system that can perform OTA updates, not app stores themselves.

AlgebraFox · a month ago
What about when Google pushed Android Safety Core to all Android devices out there?

And you also realize they can push modified build of any apps, now that they also own the keys to sign the apps?

While censorship is one thing, they forgot another overlooked ability of these app stores: pushing unwanted apps/services to our personal devices without our knowledge. The fact that the majority of people don’t care about this censorship and backdoors makes me think we don’t really appreciate the concept of freedom, and maybe we are okay with being slaves—at least until we cannot take it anymore. Maybe that’s why history repeats itself every few decades to remind us about these values.

But MEP will be exempted, so they can continue to use Signal. Rules for thy.
AlgebraFox · a month ago
No. Signal will pull out their services from EU. Nobody will be able to download or access Signal.

Apple and Google dominates the entire smartphone market today. They are ad companies running on surveillance economy. In addition, their platforms are proprietary, privacy invading and freedom disrespecting.

GrapheneOS is the only security and privacy focused alternative we have today. Please support GrapheneOS by nominating them in the 2025 Proton Lifetime Fundraiser.
