Ajay-p commented on iPhones were being stolen off porches right after delivery, and now we know how   9to5mac.com/2025/03/20/ip... · Posted by u/TMWNN

When you buy something online in the USA, the responsibility of the shipper ends once they hand it to the shipping company. At that moment it is your (the customer's) responsibility.

Which is weird, as you, the customer, don't have any leverage in enforcing any behavior of the shipping company (like make sure package is signed for). You can't even select them.

Apple for example charges you $9 for expedited shipping, which is essentially Uber delivery. But when the delivery person takes off with your $1,200 phone they don't have to replace it. It is on you: https://law.stackexchange.com/a/73842

When this whole thing is flipped around, where the sender is responsible until the buyer actually has it in their hands the whole system all of the sudden becomes incentivized to minimize losses.

(sidenote: it is a disgrace that Stackoverflow doesn't allow you to turn off auto-sharing of your ID when you share a link).

Really it goes back on to the seller. Because if I don't get my item, I'm going to dispute the charge on my credit card. Eventually, someone pays, but not me.

I have always wondered why DNA is an accepted evidence. It's so easy to contaminate a crime scene or bring someone else hair, skin cells, etc by mistake.
Ajay-p · 9 months ago
Because people believe it, and courts have accepted as fact that DNA evidence is infallible. Certainly there have been cases where DNA has been successfully challenged, but those are very rare. In the overwhelming number of cases where DNA evidence is present, it is a self-fulfilling prophecy for juries and judges.

If there is DNA evidence that is almost a guilty verdict. It should be more closely scrutinized but not everyone is rich enough to afford a real defense.

I'm so confused by their lineup. I'm in the market for a new iPad, but I can never remember the difference between an iPad, iPad Pro, and Air. What's the difference between this an a 13" Pro or Non-Air? I wish they'd just have a single line of iPads with different screen sizes but the same CPU and stylus support in every generation. I'm so tired of having to play the "compare every permutation" game when shopping.

Edit: I just want a big screen for drawing and watching movies on the plane with.

Remember when Steve Jobs returned to Apple and simplified the product line? I feel like Apple needs that again.

I love my iPad because of the pencil. I got rid of an office overflowing with paper, and I write everything in an app on the iPad. It then gets saved up into the cloud. That alone has made iPad worth it for me. Sometimes I watch movies on it.

Maybe have a special prison ? In the US, how many can there be ?

But like everything else, Musk and his lackey Trump only cares about how much they can pilfer from the US.

this already exists in the form of medical facilities for inmates with mental and physical limitations.

I maintain that we do NOT have a housing crisis, only a crisis of not enough housing in cities and places where people want to live. Instead, we have a neighborhood and zoning problem.

I just re-watched the Todd Phillips' Joker movie last night and was pondering how "easy" it is to get the audience to root for a schizophrenic murderer. I say "easy" because I think it is a masterful film, but still, shouldn't the audience be insurmountably revolted by the Joker?

Taken solely by their on camera presentations, Thomas Wayne, Murray, and the police seem pretty reasonable people. However, this is overshadowed by the screen time and depth given to the joker.[1] The audience might briefly wonder if they deserve to die, but before that question can sink in, the plot advances, and the question is forgotten. It is easy to see how time, perspective, speed, and narrative saturation drive emotion.

I think our modern political environment has a lot of parallels. It is all thinking fast and no thinking slow.

[1] Aside, I think it is a great example of cinematic dissonance, where multiple meanings are intentionally or unintentionally layered. Eneaz Brodski had a great article about that introduced me to the term: https://deathisbad.substack.com/p/cinemanarrative-dissonance...

I think you can convince just about anyone to hate given time and the right circumstances, but it's even easier IMO when it is prescribed to groups. Then in-group dynamics reinforce the behavior.

As I mentioned, older Boeing's. The Dreamliner been flying since 2011, that's an older Boeing for me, compared to the 737 Max which has only been flying commercially since 2016.

Here is the original press release:

Automatic translation (semi-verified):

Noodle dishes marketed as extremely spicy can no longer be sold because they pose a risk of acute poisoning to consumers, especially children. The affected products are sold under the names Samyang Buldak 3x Spicy & Hot Chicken, Samyang Buldak 2x Spicy & Hot Chicken, and Samyang Buldak Hot Chicken Stew.

These extremely spicy Samyang Buldak noodle soups have been recalled due to their high capsaicin content from chili peppers, which can cause poisoning, particularly in children and vulnerable adults.

"Can you handle a spicy bowl of noodle soup?" This is the kind of challenge children and teenagers are taking on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. The challenge involves enduring the soup's high capsaicin levels. However, the capsaicin content is so high that it poses a health risk. In Germany, several children have been hospitalized with poisoning after participating in similar challenges involving spicy chili chips.

"Large quantities of chili pose a risk, especially to children and vulnerable adults. Possible symptoms include burning and discomfort, nausea, vomiting, and high blood pressure. Therefore, we are now requiring stores to remove these products from their shelves," says unit manager Henrik Dammand Nielsen of the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.

A concerned consumer inquired with the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration about the legality of selling the red and pink Samyang Buldak noodles in Denmark. The DTU Food Institute has now assessed the products and concluded that the noodle packages are harmful to health.

"The amount of spicy chili in these noodles is even higher than in the chili chips that previously caused poisoning among children in Germany. Therefore, it is important for parents to be aware of these extreme noodle variants and avoid them," says Henrik Dammand Nielsen.

The recalled noodle products are Buldak Samyang 3x Spicy & Hot Chicken, Buldak Samyang 2x Spicy & Hot Chicken, and Buldak Samyang Hot Chicken Stew. Recalled products must not be sold, and the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration urges consumers to discard or return them to the retailer.

Large quantities of chili pose a risk

That may be true, but what about a small quantity of a potent chili? While I am not a fan of very spicy foods (quite mild if you don't mind) I think this is a waste of government resources and time. As long as the customer is clearly made aware the product they are purchasing is very spicy, that is enough.
