AiTricky commented on Microsoft to force Windows 11 24H2 on Home and Pro users   theregister.com/2025/01/2... · Posted by u/Bender

If they force my gaming pc to Windows 11, that is fine. I will set up dual-boot with a linux distro (linux mint or whatever steamOS like option I will have). I will only launch windows to play games, and NOTHING else unless I have to.

Thanks for sharing this. I watched it while both enjoying and cringing at it.

I couldn't tell you what the difference is between Chrome and Firefox. But that is the reason I was able to switch. I didn't get slowed down at all in the switch. And the reason I switched is because Google has been consistently suspicious about data. Plus, Mozilla seems to be better for the internet, and I want to show my support.

There was a long time in between using either where I was using Brave. Actually, when I ditched Chrome like 7 years ago, I made Brave my default and installed Firefox developers edition. It took a couple years before my default swapped.

Have been using macOS Sonoma since DB1, this is probably the most favorite update of the OS that I had in a while:

1. Safari Profiles. I used this browser as my primary browser for a long time, but had to use another browser (Chrome) for work, to be able to separate sessions, etc. Since DB1 I use only Safari. And it works great.

2. Widgets. I have two monitors, and love that in one of them I can see widgets with some useful information. Just wish more apps were ready with widgets.

And a quick self-promotion. I am developer of the application OpenIn, and for macOS Sonoma I have added support for Safari Profiles https://loshadki.app/blog/2023-08-23-openin-4-1-beta/, this is the only (as far as I know) app that will let you redirect links to a specific Safari Profile based on various configurations you make.

I am pretty happy with how my M1 mac performs on Monterey. Would you share your opinion/guess on if I will feel a difference going from Monterey to Sonoma? I will go look through the details later. However, you are in the trenches so perhaps you have thoughts?
AiTricky commented on X.com was an online bank co-founded by Elon Musk   en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X.c... · Posted by u/vinnyglennon

I don't use twitter, and so I am a bystander watching Musk do everything he can to sink it (I assume not on purpose). He owns x.com, loves the idea of it and wants to bolt it on somewhere. Except Twitter has crazy name recognition, so this is stupid and confusing. I am sure it will survive, but this can only hurt the company in my opinion.

Back when the facebook company became Meta, I thought that was an unnecessary but harmless move. This is because normal people who don't care about tech can still say "I will post on facebook".

As someone who is a non-user and a bystander watching all this twitter stuff -- I got two words "yikes... yikes"
