I think, and I have to admit I don't have any current numbers on that, that Europe is actually producing more food than we currently need. So cutting backnon industrial agriculture, ranging from grains to meat, so covering all sorts of foodstuffs, can only be a good thing, for people, the environment and animals.

And yet a billion people in this world are starving... Cutting back on industrial agriculture means participating in a genocide, basically.

Some geeks here are coming up with sci-fi ideas of producing food in vertical farms, or underwater, why don't we start by simply using existing techniques?

And what's wrong with that? "Gig" is not a real job, so it doesn't have to pay a real salary :) It's a temporary solution for people in-between jobs.

Is there any country in Europe not passing authoritarian laws?

In Sweden the current government is on its way to defund the largest opposition party.

The swedish riksdag recebtly (with broad support) changed the constitution to limit the freedom of speech.

Poland and Hungary are shitfests, with almost complete political control of the justice system.

Spain has increased the ability to give large civil fines, seemingly disconnected from the regular juridical process (please correct me on this one. My Spanish is sub-par).

Edit: my poland name-calling was apparently uncalled for. There are other bad things going on, with Kaczyński at the rudder.

That's not exactly true, Poland is a country where most of the judges are basically in open rebellion against the current government, and the government can't do shit about it.

Capitalism is supposed to help the people via efficient allocation of resources, not make money for a select few. The original goal of any economy is to enable specialization and still provide for the basics. People aren’t just workers.

Effective allocation of resources means firing people that are not necessary for the company.

Also “people aren’t just workers” might be true in general sense, but for the company they are exactly that: workers. Their private lives are not the company’s concern. They shouldn’t be. The thing I hate the most is when my employer tries to take care of my wellbeing outside work. I consider that invasive of my privacy.
