Way back, one of my uni projects was to write a C to MIPS32 compiler. Why? Because the lecturer was a big fan of MIPS. I've never needed to touch anything related to MIPS since.

Significant whitespace in any language or system is a mistake. Just exclude spaces, tabs, and newline special characters.
