If you're curious about torque converters I suspect you're careful about this, but what's your information vetting process? I use LLMs via text, so I can verify info as it streams in. How do you verify what's spoken to you in a car?
0xEFF · 3 months ago
I do the same as GP on a regular 2 hour drive up I-5 I take.

The vetting process is the same as if I were driving up I-5 with a gear head friend of mine having a conversation with them as we go.

That link doesn't mention anything about it being a "bathroom spy camera".

It was sold as a nanny cam which is really a legitimate, if slightly distasteful, function. There is an image of it shown with towels on the hook, but it isn't stated or implied that it should be used to spy on people as they use the bathroom.

I'm a big fan of holding tech companies to the same standards as other industries, but not a big fan of holding them to unreasonably high standards.

It literally says spy cam in the product title.

> By all intents, purposes and employment contracts, it was always meant to be a "work for payment" type deals, nothing more

That's exactly the opposite of what 99% of the companies sell to candidates. You must have seen stuff like this is a great place work, join the family, etc. So maybe you mean the hidden intent was that but that's not the message being broadcasted.

0xEFF · 2 years ago
No company reflects “we’re family” in contracts or compensation packages. That fact alone tells us the message is and always has been bullshit.

Here's my challenge: if this is correct, we then have to assume that 95% of the company is purely profit-motivated since they aligned behind Sam. I'm cynical, but I struggle to be that cynical. I would have expected a few more holdouts in the name of caution, EA, etc. Maybe it's a blindness.

I think it’s reasonable that 95% of people would choose generational wealth for their families given the opportunity.

To be clear, I don't personally operate from this assumption nor does my community (generally)

However it is unquestionable that the default mode for humans in America to operate is out of fear - and the opposite is by exception

0xEFF · 2 years ago
Is it really unquestionable?

That's "building your own cloudflare".

> Make it cheap to handle the DDOS traffic and expensive to generate the DDOS traffic

The traffic is from compromised devices, so it's very cheap.

0xEFF · 2 years ago
Even so, the suggestion is a good one. Modern proxies have gotten much better at handling auth and processing the traffic as the GP describes. Service meshes have these features built in now when a few years ago we had to roll our own solutions with haproxy or nginx.

And that website does nothing. It’s just text, and it has one image that’s too small on a mobile view.

Now try to do the same thing with a complex app like your bank’s website, which needs to handle every type of account including credit cards, checking accounts, and investment accounts, rewards, and a travel/shopping portal.

0xEFF · 2 years ago
A bank is a bad example. The only thing we use bank websites for is to check our transactions and transfer money.

My business checking account has started offering partner promotions from the transfer screen and I’m tempted to switch to another bank because of it. Their developers and designers were tasked with delivering that component. At the same time they took away their mobile app and mobile check deposit because it was not secured properly.

Most bank websites and apps are examples of teams and organizations focusing on the wrong thing in my opinion.

Why?

See for yourself, 4.0 is clearly improved over 3.5.

This is great for internal distributed systems where having ordered keys is useful, however, it should probably be noted that these probably shouldn't be used as public identifiers (even though this will probably be the defacto standard and used publicly without thought).

Having any information, specifically time information, leaking from your systems may or may not have unanticipated security or business implications. (e.g. knowing when session tokens or accounts are created).

Every access and id token issued by oidc already has an issued at (iat) and expiration (exp) fields.
